UChicago essay question

I finished writing an essay from one of UChicago's essay topics and I really love how it turned out but I was wondering if it would be okay to send that very essay along with topic to the other colleges I'll be applying to (they have a "topic of your choice" option)? Is that something I could do or is it looked down-upon by other colleges?
I just don't want to write a new essay for every college!

Sure I wouldn't mind. I AM SO BORED RIGHT NOW.

i was wondering the same thing. could someone please answer him/her

I'll read it. I helped my friend with her Uchicago essay last year :]

Come on people, read! He/she isn't asking you to read the essay for them. It's a question!

@ openedskittles: I know, right! lol

Someone please answer my question!

Honestly, I don't think the colleges talk. They aren't going to know you're using the same essay for several colleges, and I doubt they care. If I were an admissions officer and my application had such an open writing option, I wouldn't expect that the essay be written expressly for my college. I fully intend to send in my best essay to multiple colleges.

It's a little weird. You can do it. But if UChicago is somewhere you applied to and you answer (if they ask where you applied) you did, they might clearly think it's your #1. I'd advise against it for the most part.

But, I'll definitely help. PM it.

i think the general idea is to write a few, because then u end up with a variety of choices and may have a 'best' essay =]

absolutely NOT! UChicago has very different prompts, and, most likely, many of the schools you're applying to know this. they will know that the essay was a chicago essay, and that would be like a huge slap in the face.

if you're serious about the other schools, right another essay.

however, there is another possibility. What I'm doing is taking an essay that I wrote (also for chicago, coincidentally), and am writing a new, equally fun, prompt, for which my essay would be an adequate answer. I'm then tweaking the essay (just a little bit, to better answer my created prompt), and then colleges won't tell.

do NOT use another schools prompt for the create your own prompt.

I tend to agree with MBP on this issue, although I'm no authority.

Chicago does have a "create your own prompt" and if your essay is a created prompt, then sure, you can use it for other school's create your own prompt. However, don't talk to Northwestern about the story of a street - please dont.

Most students find chicago essays some of the toughest to write - if you can write a great Uchic one, I'm sure you have it in you to write other excellent essays...

You're defintely right asdfjkl1, Stanalum96, and MBP.
That is also a great suggestion, MBP. Thanks!

not to sound like an imbecile :P
but what kind of an essay might u have to write for Uchicago?

I think you can go ahead .. but only do so if your running low on time.
