@heyigotnoclue; MOOD. My sat is also low, painfully so… Haha.
Regardless, I feel excited!
Going test-optional, I believe, grants the ability to show off more as an applicant–in a more creative, self-identifying type of fashion. You get to reveal yourself qualitatively (in terms of personal qualities) rather than quantitatively (number-based/test score); the analysis of an applicant is more toward achievements and ambitions rather than on the judgment of numbers that just might disservice and prove disadvantageous. (Not that applying with test scores is terrible–it isn’t. Test scores allow applicants to be considered on a whole other playing field where numbers are of heavy focus–I say this although you didn’t ask for this information, haha. I just love to dive deep.) There are other components to decisions–e.g., applicant background.
In brief, giving our all in the admissions process proves beneficial. No need to worry if applying without test scores comes across as compromising! You’ve got this! Approach the process with your best foot forward and in the most personal fashion. UChicago can identify their type in the drop of a hat.
@XXATR22 - dang girl - that answer alone should get u into the school ROFL
not even joking, the amount of essays they had us write, should get us in. I got so mad at the garlic bread something something olive garden prompt that i had to get up and inhale and exhale. my essays were horrible lol cuz i did it last minute.
Also, I agree with the essay dilemma, they really push you to think. I worked on my transfer essays for about a year and got pretty ticked myself. (Especially when I ended up tossing all my old drafts for new ones.–I made my own prompt and everything. Felt quite pressed at the end. Lol. All due to the feeling time has been wasted. It gets under the skin, ya’ know?)
And yeah, fashion is good. ; however, my major is Creative Writing (hence, all the colorful, extensive wordings.)
What major are you going for? (And the profile pic!!! XD)
@XXATR22 - for me, i love chicago and i wanted to go somewhere really prestigious so i figured why not apply, especially with the no SAT. - thats the honest answer lol tbh. well-known, business school is very good and i wanted to be in cold weather
However, not holding out for a good essay though, it turned out very passive-aggressive ROFL. i applied to so many i cant even count. LOLLL wbu
@heyigotnoclue; Not going to lie to you, the only school I applied to is UChicago. Some reason, no other school carries my interest. It’s a weird story to be honest, regarding how UChicago caught my attention: In short, four years back, I shifted focus from visual arts to creative writing and found myself writing books and poetry.
I have spent some years researching the school and taking transfer courses; however, because I’ve already attained my Associate’s, I haven’t a definitive clue how the University will respond, ya’ know? The more transfer credits attached to an applicant, the less gained income for the institution. The lesser the profit, the greater the loss.
On another note, I find it cool to hear you’ve applied to other schools, it helps keep a leveled playing field. (I applaud you for taking such a rational decision!); Having a wide selection gives an opportunity to decide what you want and the time to differentiate options, versus having to find ease with a default decision–an attendance to the one school applied to (for example, in my case, my current path toward the admissions process–applying to UChicago, since I view it as the only school that I have interest in, that is capable of directing me in the most efficient path.).
@heyigotnoclue; It took me a while to respond, College Confidential wouldn’t let me post. Something to do with “post is flagged for moderation.” Sigh.
@heyigotnoclue; Thanks so much, that’s very nice to say! Haha. I’m happy to see so many people applying for UChicago (You, especially! You seem so cool! ). I feel those who take the initiative to do so–apply–have a lot of ambition. (Meaning, you taking the time to apply to UChicago, you biting the bullet and facing those essays head-on, really gives off the impression you have great ambition, and I support those with strong ambition.)
Overall, I, too, support you, amazing community college fellow!
@zstar18; Hello again, I forgot to ask you: What’s your (intended) major?
I recall you mentioning Global Studies, is that the major of interest?
If so, what is Global Studies? It sounds fascinating based on how you’ve described it!
@XXATR22 - haha thanks -honestly college admissions is a gamble but it’s all good. Community college gang, heyyyyyyyy! I’ve been at mine for two years and so it’s definitely time to move on. Let’s hope it’s to UChicago
@heyigotnoclue; Same! After a good two years, the need to go elsewhere gets powerful.
I’ve been at my community college for two and a half years (counting this semester). The desire to transfer really got to me after that two-year milestone. Haha!
