I've heard that the University of Chicago looks like Hogwarts from a Harry Potter movie?

True? Not true?

Just curious.

I've heard that the University of Chicago looks like Hogwarts from a Harry Potter movie?

True? Not true?

Just curious.

The architecture of the University of Chicago is primarily based upon the architecture of Cambridge and Oxford. A lot of Harry Potter scenes were shot at Oxford, so there's going to be a resemblance.

For example, the cafeteria of Hogwarts is actually one of the cafeterias of Oxford. Hutchinson Commons, one of our "cafeterias" (it really isn't much of one anymore) was exactly modeled after this cafeteria at Oxford, so by the transitive property... yeah.

I want to go to Hogwarts.

^_^

Besides the architecture, we also have houses, house council, house tables, and house sports teams, and we also refer to ourselves as "first," "second," "third," or "fourth," years instead of "freshman," "sophomore," "junior," or "senior."

The most "Hogwartsian" places on campus would probably be the library in Harper, the inside of the BJ dining hall, BJ in general, and just the general look of campus, given the gothic stone buildings.

We were visiting this past Saturday around 5:30 in the evening and when we started to walk toward Harper from the Main Quadrangles, Hogwarts was the first thing to come to mind! (and I am a parent).

Also the house system and the gargoyles are pretty Potteresque.

I love UChicago's architecture.

If I went there, I would wear a cloak to class everyday and hope that it would make me invisible (so I can sleep). Except I wouldn't sleep in class...?

Oh well, the idea seemed okay when it was still in my head.

Sounds pretty cool.
