I was debating whether or not I should ask, and I decided might as well...
Well, what are my chances for University of Chicago?
Academics:
1/400 some people class of 2012
3.9 GPA carnegie (don't know weighted...)
5 AP classes total with 4 next year (5 on Physics, the other four are yet to be determined)
2090 SAT (690 Reading, 770 Math, 630 Writing) 33 ACT
ECs:
Created Ping Pong club
Created FutureIdeas club
Key Club (no office though)
Tennis Varsity 2 years (with next year pending)
1st Clarinet at Band
Homeless volunteer work for 3+ years
Knowledge Bowl competition
Made it to Math Olympiad (but epic failed 1st round)

Academically your chances are great, and your SAT while a bit low is compensated for by a stellar ACT score! I agree with Polyosophy that you need a great essay. Every year the UofC prompts are creative and allow for a broad range of answers, so have fun with it! As for ECs try to show leadership on your application.

I don’t know anything about your high school (so I can’t judge the number of APs you took), but the number 1 ranking speaks strongly. Definitely apply EA, but it looks like you stand a great shot. Good luck!

Thank you for all the replies. Even though I’m ranked number one, I know for a fact that I don’t deserve this spot. I know many other friends who are probably more amazing than me, and I feel ashamed for having taken their spot. Such is life, I say to myself…
Well, enough of being depressed. Your replies have been very encouraging, and wish me luck!

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a Dream…

I think you have a great shot! Being ranked first at your school is quite an achievement.

I concur, your SAT is a bit weak but I have a friend with a 2120 who was accepted EA, received 30,000K in aid, and was ranked 3rd at her school (GPA 4.8), so I would not be at all surprised if you got in.

And good luck
PM me if you want around college apps time. I’d be happy to read your essays.

UChicago was my first choice, but I was accepted to Haverford through Questbridge. That said, I have a lot of friends who go to UChicago and have a good idea of what the atmosphere is like.
