UChicago Hopeful!

I know these threads are silly, but my parents think I can get into any school I want, but in comparison to the amazing students on CC, I'm not so sure! I'd really love to know what everyone else thinks. I plan on studying a lot more for the ACT and taking the SAT and maintaining/raising my class rank.

Does anyone have a freshmen profile for UChicago? I couldn't find anything. For example, GTown has a really helpful one: http://www12.georgetown.edu/undergrad/admissions/aap/documents/Profile2011.pdf

I am junior in a great high school from Minnesota. I'd like to study anything business related, especially economics at UChicago. Finance, accounting, or applied mathematics would be great too.

Counting only freshman/sophomore grades:
UW GPA: 3.96
W GPA: 4.11
W Class Rank: 10/296 (top 3-4%)

ACT: composite: 30 (31 E, 32 M, 30 R, 25 S)
I took this once without any prep at the end of my sophomore year. I've been practicing a little bit the reading and science sections and I've been averaging a 33 R and 31 S!

Course Load: I've been enrolled in the most rigorous classes available. The only AP offered to underclassmen was AP US History (4).

AP Literature (A)
AP US Government (A)
AP Statistics (A-)

UChicago isn’t quick with the stats, but here’s the class profile for 2014: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/apply/classprofile.shtml

Expect your class’s vital stats to be non-negligibly higher in all key respects. Your EC’s are outstanding and your GPA and rank nothing to sneeze at, though your ACT score, while in the target range (if not just below it), isn’t quite good enough to grant you free entry into “any school you want”.

Additionally, I suggest you do some research on the academic programs at the schools you’re looking into. Though UChicago’s economics program is the best in the world, economics is NOT business, nor is it “finance, accounting, or applied mathematics”. UChicago’s programs, generally speaking, are not applied, and this is certainly something to be aware of as you get closer to applying.

I wish they would give out more information!

I definitely understand the need to improve my ACT. I plan to take it in June once more, and then again in September. If I don’t like my June scores, I plan on receiving tutoring from ******. If I raised it a few points (I’m really hoping 2-3), would I be a solid candidate? I would just like to know where I can improve otherwise.

I understand that they’re not the same things at all, but I apologize if I came off unprepared. I originally thought that I would go into business, so I had to go to a college with a specific business school, but I learned that an economics degree may be sufficient for jobs along the finance route. Moreover, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/714409-why-you-should-major-economics.html, among other resources, has convinced me that an economics major would allow opportunities much further than this.

I will look into UChicago’s economics program further! Thank you for your response!

I got a 32C ACT this June! 35E, 32M, 31R, 31S, 09W. Anyone have any other input? I’m still very much interested in Chicago!

Write strong essays! It will help for UChicago. https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/apply/classprofile.shtml That’s the Class of 2015 profile, it was easy to find. just Google “UChicago class of 2015 profile” and you can look at other ones. There may be an admitted students profile if you look hard enough.
