UChicago Housing Assignments

Hey, I’m @Cariño’s daughter and I was wondering what you guys thought of my chances of getting into one of my top three choices for housing as a freshman. I submitted the enrollment deposit on the first of April, after I found out my regular decision acceptances, even though I got into UChicago EA because I wanted to wait and see what my options are (UChicago was my favorite, though).

The three top choices I put were South Campus, North Campus, and Max P, in that order. I also requested a single, but I’m not too hopeful about getting one. What do you think are my chances considering the number of people who applied ED and ED2 and submitted the enrollment deposit before me?

Also curious to see what you have heard about the dorms- which ones are the nicest, how many people are satisfied with their housing, if roommates are typically nice, perks of the different dorms, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Well presumably they had to delay because they still don’t have room for all freshman in housing and are waiting for more upperclassmen to take apartment offers, so I think all bets are off. That being said, I submitted mine on April 22nd, so you’re in a better spot than people like me!
From my overnight, people seemed to really like North and BJ, but I’m sure wherever you’re assigned will be your favorite! For me the important things were proximity to campus and dining halls and, to a certain extent, dorm culture. BJ was my #1, followed by North then South. I’m an incoming student too so I don’t have the insider info yet. Hopefully someone like @HydeSnark will drop in and bestow their wisdom. Good luck to you !

@elmejor21 thanks so much! Same to you! :slight_smile:

South, North, and Max have about 3/4 of the rooms on campus - Assuming uniform return rates across each dorm (surprisingly, not a bad assumption) I can’t imagine that 75% of the class deposited before you and they all chose South, North, and Max. So I’d say your chances of getting one of those three are pretty good, and if it isn’t it means that this year was even wackier than we already knew with a totally different admissions policies and over-enrollment by 200 people.

Anyways, the housing application is long due, and we’re just waiting for housing assignments. Are you sure it’s a good idea to sit around wondering which dorm is the best and worst? Maybe you are significantly more sure of yourself than me, but I think that would have just made incoming first year me second guess myself constantly. The dorms have stereotypes and different pros and cons, but anyone can be happy at any dorm.

@HydeSnark You’re right, I’m very sure I want the dorms that I requested, but I was curious to see what people thought of the other ones. This year seems a little unpredictable with the “increased demand in housing” so I was kinda entertaining the worst case scenario of not getting in to any of the three I chose.

If 75% of the spaces are in South, North, and Max though, then I think my chances are pretty good too. At any rate, if anyone really can be happy at any dorm, then I’ll try not to worry too much. And if not, well, it’s not like I can do anything about it. Here’s hoping that you’re right! And thanks for your reply. :slight_smile:

Great! Got first choice!!!

Did you get a single?

@CU123
