I never thought I'd ever even get the chance to make a decision like this... but here the time has come. I'm interested in political science/sociology/education--basically social sciences and the humanities. I know both are strong in this area. I absolutely love Chicago as a city, and I know the school is notorious for being rigorous (see "where fun comes to die"), but I think I'd like that. At the same time, Brown is an amazing place--the open curriculum and their philosophy on education is so refreshing, I think I'd love that.
Ah I don't know... (but it's the good kind of inner-struggle)

University of Chicago will provide you with an awesome urban experience and phenomeonal preparation for a research/scholastic-oriented career if you’re into that. You’re right about it’s academic rigor.

Brown will also provide you with some great learning experiences and opportunities to explore yourself. If you’re liberal and like a quirky, really liberal environment, then Brown’s probably for you.

I forgot to mention: If you’re really interested in education, then the University of Chicago Lab School is a fantastic opportunity (and, well, laboratory) for learning about progressive K-12 education. Plus, it’s where the Obama kids went. ;)

I think you need to visit both places and get a feel for them. I find that the schools environment and feel could not be more different and I am always surprised at how many students have a problem deciding between both schools.

They are both top notch and prestigious universities (I found that both of their admission letters and packages were the classiest too, weren’t they?)

Brown - Open curriculum that encourages you to experiment and the choice of Pass/Fail courses
Chicago - One of the most rigid curriculums and core of any of the US institutions and well known grade deflation
Brown- Smaller, artsy, quaint Providence with Brown in the middle of College Hill with a lot off stuff going on and Boston 45 minutes away.
Chicago - One of the best cities in the world but with the school in a rather sketchy neighborhood where you do not walk out of campus at night
Brown- Ivy League
Chicago - Non Ivy but higher ranked by US News because of the graduate programs

Another thing about Brown, the Watson Institute for International Studies is loaded with Ambassadors and Former Head of States that are recruited every year to lecture to students. It is quiet an experience.

Again, go and visit and see where you fit. Congrats!! They are awesome schols
