Ye my mid year grades have taken a beating as a result of my current situation. Please be honest about my chances. I wrote an essay about my current situation and one about my research involving diabetes( I am a diabetic).

BTW: do you think the Rockefeller Institute thingy will help since Rockefeller also founded Chicago? Corney I know? But am curious!

If this:

Chicago is my number one choice and I greatly showed that in my essays.
[/quote]
is true and your essays were interesting, then I think you are worrying too much about chances. Scores aren't looked upon as severely as other top universities so I think you have a great shot.

amptron2x: I thought that my stats fall within the mid 50 for chicago (28-32). Also I am the only person from my school applying rd and one person got in ea. I really poured my heart into my essays and I thought my ecs were unusual and would stand out?

nom de plume: No I did not mention that I was a diabetic in my uchic essay. However, I mentioned it in one of my supp essays for cornell. Im really scared now.

Check out the admitted threads from the UChicago forum. Sometimes high scorers get rejected and sometimes lower scores get in. Essays are important.

bball87: isnt my act score in their mid 50: be it in the lower 50. I seriously poured my heart into my essays, and am the only person applying from my school. So I should most likely expect a rejection?

idk, the kids at chicago are brilliant and if they think u can't handle the workload there, they won't admit anyone

chicago is a tough place, the last thing they want are kids they think are gonna fail

so they want either person A or person B

someone who is smart, works reallllly hard, and is motivated, does well
that perosn is someone who has like a realllly high average in high school and has like a 1400-1450 SAT

the other person, they are looking for
one with a little lower perhaps (maybe like top 15 percent, but who has SAT scores that are in the 1500s, who may not work as hard, but has the talent to get by

bball87: I definately dont think i will fail at Chicago. I have unfortunately however had terrible circumstances this past yr which has deterred me from showing my true potential. My teachers have taken a note of this and have expounded upon my diligent and hardworking nature in their recs.

lets put it this way - univ of chicago is quickly becoming one of the most popular schools in the country. everey year they receive more and more applicants. sadly they are going to have to start looking at scores very closely and that 28 act will soon be around the 15th percntile instead of 25th.

for example - look at the accepted thread. the standardized tests factor in largely. a lot of people with 2100+ and 32+ scores are applying (myself included).

i think your recs are great, but sadly i feel like your gpa and test scores will hurt you and make your chance very very slim, especially RD

jjjjj thanks for your response. Yeh I have a feeling taht Im going to get rejected. But I put so much effort into my app and essay. Do you think you can take a look at my essay?

I think your stats are quite good. I got in EA to Chicago with stats only a little higher, and really high SATs. But Chicago took around 41% EA and will take in the 30s for RD, thus your chances should be quite good. If you did write a really good essay, you have an excellent shot of getting in.

Man, I thought Chicago wasn't that selective, yet some of you guys are raving about how selective it is. If they took close to 40% last year, then that's definitely isn't that selective.

Iwannatopcollege:I will take a look at your essay if you pm it to me. I think it was a mistake to put Whos Who American Americas High School Students, National Honor Roll and National Society of High School Scholars on your application. They are all scams and anyone can get them. Thus, this may make you look naive. However, I'm sure you are not the only one who listed these awards. Anyway, pm me your essay and I'll look at it

Meestasi: The acceptance rate is a reflection of the quality of the applicant pool. Chicago is receiving applications from the nation's top students and thus, many very qualified candidates are rejected. The near 40% admit rate is a product of an extremely qualified applicant pool and a yield rate that is lagging slightly behind those of other top 15 schools.
