THe yield at Chicago is around 33%. The college is one of my first choices, but I don't believe that it is as sel-fselective or purely selective as some make it out to be for undergraduate degrees. They lose their battle for applicants from yale at about a 10:1 ratio. That's not good, either the college doesn't really care, or kids don't see Chicago in teh same class with Yale.

and what school besides harvard and stanford are not 1:10 with yale?

Nearly all the Ivies. MIT, caltech I'm sure as well, also Duke. The thing is, that I'm sure that Chicago looses the batle for kids to nearly every Ivy and similarly ranked school, as shown by their 33% yield rate.

well its been over a month since I last posted in this thread. I sent 2 additional essays to chicago with one detailing on the poverty ive faced these months, and the other on a passion of mine (ayurveda). I also sent an research supplement and 2 additional recs (1 from french teacher, other from local doctor.). I really did the best I could. Do you think I could quite posisbly get in?

oh btw I got my sats (1940). They arent good but are higher than my actt.

bumppppppp

Chicago is a reach for you. I'm not saying the fat package won't come in April, but your chances are low. That said, STOP WORRYING. There's nothing you can do right now to improve your chances, so just relax. However, be warned that Chicago enjoys taunting their applicants (last year they posted "patience is a virtue" on the admissions website  ).

For an inside look at Chicago admissions:

Dissenting voices crackle, but fall silent when Ted O'Neill speaks. O'Neill, 52, is a machinist's son who came to this work after years devoted to the study of Romantic poetry. As dean of admissions, he has spent a decade urging his staff to look past grades and test scores. Yes, other kids appear more deserving. "But we are the University of Chicago," O'Neill reminds his colleagues. "We can do what we damn well please, so long as we have good reasons."

thanks for the response warbersrule86.

I sent alot of additional stuff. I hope they help. How does Chicago look if I stated that they were my number one choice in my essays. I wrote a pretty unusual esssay describing my love for rockefeller and how I did research at the rockefeller univeristy in manhattan. Hence I felt I had a connection. I glorified this on my app. Can I get in?

bumppppppppppppppppp

hey guys I was waitlisted at UChicago. What do you think i can possibly do to get myself in. Retake my ACT scores?

I would definitely send them a letter showing your interest.

Just taking information from their yield rate (33%), they know that a lot of people that applied to them use it as a match (when the applicants really want to go to the ivies). So they may have a decent amount of spots left over depending on what % of their class also got accepted to the ivies, and if you show enough enthusiasm and dedication they might decide to take you off of the waitlist.

Now all of this is speculation, so if anyone knows otherwise, feel free to dispute me. But I do think I have a fairly logical explanation.

Good luck!

thanks windslicer. I am just really shocked that they waitlisted in stead of rejecting me as I was clearly underqualified. I will def send a letter of interest and retake my act scores.
