I've been accepted at both, I think Williams give the better chance of getting into a grad school, but Uchicago is better known (and thus my parents are a little more willing to pay), any students from both schools want to contribute to this thread, I am going to be a pre-med student with an econ, sociology, biology backgroudn

why don't you visit both

wow my thread got pushed down fast

Williams College is one of the best, if not the best, liberal arts university in the nation. However, UofChi is awesome and has prestige. Both are good but I'd go with Chicago.

Williams. definitely.

i think id pick Williams. it depends if you want an LAC or university.

I am a fan of both. S was recruited by both and accepted EA to Chicago. He crossed Williams off his list as being too small and remote. If I were going to college right now, Williams is where I would go. I think it offers the best college experience to be had in the country today. On the recruiting weekend that I attended with my son, the parents and athletes had a meeting with President Shapiro. He was incredibly impressive and I am convinced this school really has it together. The grad school placement is terrific, too. On the other hand, Chicago is tops but I don't think the undergrad experience is quite what it would be at Williams.

It can also depend on what kind of location you want. My son did not want to be in "the middle of nowhere". (Those are his words, not mine.) He felt it was very important to have the intellectual excitement of a city so that he could see plays, visit museums, etc. For that reason, he chose not to apply to an excellent school like Williams, but did apply to U Chicago where he spent part of last summer and really enjoyed it.

These schools are very different. Forget about rankings and prestige. They both have plenty of that. Do you want a LAC or research univ? How important are internships? (Chicago has more in that department.) Do you want a med school nearby or isn't that important? Are you leaning towards a certain major? Different schools have strengths in different areas. Questions like these are the type of things you should be asking yourself....

I heard Williams is very isolated, which you may or may not like. UChicago isn't in the best part of Chicago, but at least you are in a city, which gives you more opportunities. Pre-med is probably more difficult at Chicago with the grading, but they have very highly-regarded social sciences departments.

Like the previous poster said, the academics and prestige are excellent either way, so you have to make your decision based on other factors that are important to you personally.
