Parents, any advice on FERPA–is there a waiver students can sign to allow parents more access? This is not about access to grades for us, but we’ve had friends at other colleges where getting information on the students’ wellbeing was an issue, with the RA, advisors and school hiding behind FERPA.

Yes. The form is among the stuff sent to parents a couple of weeks in that big folder. (along with immunization form, etc.).

A new class, Class of 2017 Orientation week is on the way.
Wish them all the best.
One-year old, Class of 2016 parent.

Rockefeller Chapel and the bagpipes get me every time.

It is a great feeling to have my S excited to go back for his second year. Welcome class of 2017!

My neighbour’s daughter attends UChicago class of 2017, her parents attended the orientation, just came back from the trip, they like the new class, called them very energetic, and promising.
Best luck to the new class.

Returned from O-week too.

Overall I think the O-week was good. The first two day’s events were organized well. While it gave students and families a good amount of time to be together during the day it asked students to be on their own in the evenings so that they could be acquainted to each other.

There were many events run by the college and houses during the week to keep student busy and relaxed at the same time. My D has called several times since we left the campus. She sounds up beat, sort of. So far so good.

We also met many fellow parents during the O-week. It was a great pleasure to talk to many people coming from many places.

Just bumping this thread for the parents of the newly admitted. Congratulations.

Anyone knows the admit rate? Application numbers dropped, but yield will rise. Maybe between 9.0% ~9.8%?

Anyone know when snail mail (acceptance letter) will arrive? :)

Chaudhur - yes good guess. It’s not public information yet, but I think your range is good.

Chadhur and kaukauna,
You may be able to find more information from the “University of Chicago Admissions’ statistics” thread. As of the latest, unofficially, the adcom says “hovering below 9%”; it should be confirmed soon enough. :)

Has the financial aid package come out for returning students this fall?
@sekwht, your student should have received an email concerning the bill for the upcoming year. In the past it was mailed to the students home in mid-August, but this year the student will receive the emailed link for the bill. The email should come in mid-August.
Sekwht: My student’s information appeared yesterday on his UChicago account.
Wow, already, kaukauna? Thanks, I will have my S check his account.
Thanks, Marylandfour and Kaukauna. Last year, it came out around this time … I will ask my daughter to check her account.
