Hi everyone, with my acceptance package they said they would FLY ME OUT THERE to visit the school! How cool is that!?!?!? Do you know if this is just something offered to University Scholars or not? Who else is taking advantage of this fabulous offer? Looking forward to meeting you there XD

Please see this thread:

Apparently, there are many factors.
Congrats!

A lot of top universities do that.
I told my parents that but they said I should see what it’s like to normally travel there. Being on three hours away, I get the train.

It isn’t linked to the Scholarship. As rhymeswithgreen said, there are many factors.

Have you ever visited the school before? I wouldn’t be surprised if that plays a factor.

i’ve reasoned from reading stuff on the website that i got the grant because a) i’ve never visited, b) i have major financial issues, and c) i’m “multicultural” (a word i am growing to hate, btw. way too PC for my taste). so i think the grants are only being given out to people who have never visited. although i’m curious - would you fall under the umbrella of “multicultural,” rach_03? i’m unsure if the grant is strictly for minority students.

If the ticket is free, why do they pay for it?

my friend got a little packet in his acceptance letter saying they’d fly him out for free for April Overnights. but i didn’t get that. so i’m guessing not everyone gets this offer?

No, no they don’t.
I’ve visited before and I’m white as the driven snow, so no paid campus visit for me! I might have to make the…18 hour drive up from Texas. Ouch.

@Erika27: Yeah those were the same criteria running through my head. I figure since I have visited twice before, my blackness (is that a little less PC, haha) doesn’t gain me a free ticket. Oh well,I would rather have them pay a chunk of my tuition than for one flight so I am happy.

how about people from europe? kinda difficult to drive for me, haha

hmm well 1) i’ve nvr visited the campus (but idk if they know that or not) 2) I am a minority and 3) They gave me a merit scholarship

so I think it’s a recruitment thing which does have a lot of factors involved
