@UChicago - thanks for answering the questions here. An RD applicant here - how important is the optional video profile? Not having that video a big disadvantage for admission?
Follow-up: can we still add a video profile to the online portal or is it too late to do now?
I do not know how applying via Questbridge or during gap year affects these abysmal statistics, but any UChicago applicant would be best advised to use the binding rounds if UChicago is their top choice.
The optional video profile is just that - optional! We know some students might feel more comfortable speaking about themselves than writing about themselves, and vice versa. It’s really just about what you feel best captures who you are! As with all of the optional components of our application, there is no penalty for not submitting a video profile.
If you’d like to add a video profile to your app at this time, I’d recommend emailing your regional admissions counselor and explaining your situation. They can help you go from there.
@TheVulcan as this is an admissions counselor thread it would be helpul if you would refrain from your opinions on this no matter how strongly you may feel about it. @UChicago is here to answer as best they can those who have questions for an admissions counselor.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: @CU123, is correct. @TheVulcan, you may start a new thread if you want to express opinions. This thread is for people to ask @UChicago questions.
Hi @GAParent2017, the easiest way for your daughter to add an update to her application at this point would be to email the update to her regional admissions counselor! You can find a list of our counselors and their contact information here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact. Hope this helps! - Hannah
Hi @AAAY , thanks for your question! I work in the office of undergraduate admissions, so I don’t have any information for you about PhD decisions. However, I highly recommend emailing gradadmissions@uchicago.edu - they would be happy to help you out! - Hannah
My son’s #1 school is Uchicago. He has an excellent GPA, Math, science, and loves to write. He took the ACT and has 35, which he is happy and wants to be done with, but his essay ACT essay score is 7. This does not reflect his writing skills and his grades that he gets at school. Should he retake ACT for the sake of the essay score?
"Do you look at the essay section of the SAT or ACT?
If you choose to submit your SAT or ACT scores, UChicago does not require the optional essay portion of the SAT or ACT. If submitted, the essay score will not be an essential part of the application review."
Hi @ungdoo, thank you for your question! @JBStillFlying is correct - we do not consider ACT essay scores as part of our application review. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
Is this the proper forum to ask questions about University of Chicago’s policies on National Merit Scholarship finalists? Please let me know to whom to address such inquiries.
My son is a RD applicant who has just been notified he is a NMS finalist. Currently he has listed his college choice as “undecided.”
How does UChicago (as well as other schools) justify ED when so many students are dependent upon financial aid? Aren’t you just effectively assuring that your student pool is comprised of wealthy students and scholarship students?
@UChicago
Question about sending an update - is it too late to send an update in first week of March?
(I participated in a math competition - did really well to score near perfect and am sure it will add weight to my app - however the official results are out only in first week of March; so I am conflicted whether to wait for my official result to send an update then or send my ‘almost-certain’ but projected score now). any advice appreciated.
Hi @clgApp20, thanks for checking in! It’s always fine to send updates to your regional counselor as they happen! You can find their info at collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact. Hope this helps! -Hannah
