hi ben, while we still guarantee housing for all students, our housing assignment process is based on date of enrollment deposit. Most accepted waitlisted students hear back later on in our processes, leading their enrollment deposits to be placed later than other students, and thereby placing them at or towards the end of the housing queue.

Hi! I will be researching at Uchicago this summer, and I wanted to know if this would give any sort of boost to my application later this fall. Also, would the engineering program be open for the juniors right now who will be seniors next year?

Thank you!

Hello UChicago,

Will all of the wait-listed students be informed about whether or not they will get off the wait-list, or only students who will be eventually in the class of 2017 be contacted?

yes, only student accept from wl will hear

Everyone will be contacted, I presume.

The standard waitlist process is such that people are being offered a position will be contacted and when all the seats are filled, the rest will be informed that they no longer are being considered.

kennedyiceit, we are happy to see students participating in rigorous programs over the summer, but hope you will undertake these options as a time for learning rather than a “boost” to the application process; attending summer programs at UChicago is a great way to learn more about the school and to experience our classrooms, but is not a prerequisite for admission or a boost to your application.

All, we will be in contact with any students we may be able to offer places to off of the waiting list directly, and will communicate with all students if or when we are certain that we no longer have space available. As we are still having a look at our available space and hearing last decisions from our accepted students, I do not yet have a sense of if or when we may be able to make space available for waitlisted students, although rest assured we will let you know if UChicago will or will not be an option for you as soon as we are able. We encourage ALL waitlisted students to accept a place at a school to which you have been accepted by today, May 1.

Hey uchicago,

Do you know how many students will be admitted from the waitlist?

Hi UChicago,
Now that May 1 passed, do you think any student will get off the wait-list this year?
Thanks.

^ and if so, when will we be hearing back? Are we all going to hear back at the same time or its rolling?

I wish the waitlist decision would come a little bit faster. Personally, the waiting game is just killing me (especially when I have 6 AP Tests to study for) but if I have a chance of being accepted at UChicago, I am going to have to inevitably wait.

Would doing one more year of an activity (especially sport) greatly increase the chance of being admitted or is it a diminutive issue?

Reading back, I see that last year UChicago notified most waitlist students via their accounts on Friday 5/4/12 that they would not be offered admission, except for a handful and also the few offered gap year who were contacted directly. And posted here to that effect on 5/5. I guess it was easy and wrapped up fast since there were so few spots last year. Will this year be similar?

^ had a mini-heart attack after reading this. So people should be getting calls around today?

There is a large discrepancy between numbers admitted last year vs this year. I would be surprised if waitlist closed that quickly since Chicago admitted 700 fewer students this year.

Sorry, I don’t know anything myself, just noting what happened last year. I suppose it may vary from year to year. UChicago can comment on that. I see people are getting off waitlists at WUSTL, UCLA, etc., so some schools are ready to move.

so as of now, no one has heard back yet?

A few people (~2-5 at most) have gotten in from the waitlist, but they got in well before May 1st. But other than that, I don’t think anyone has gotten in in the past couple of days.

i know of a few people who literally committed an hour before the deadline so i’m sure they’re still trying to figure out the numbers. also, a few wait listers might have sent in LOCs at the last minute (like myself) so they’re probably reading through the few stragglers as well

Gap Year students have already been notified I believe on Tuesday :(
