Thanks a lot Grace! That was a long, lovely answer!
And UChicago admission office seems a fun place to be, with dancers and singers…:)

tigarscratch, I would encourage you to follow whatever direction the Financial Aid office has given you regarding submitting these forms!

omar, great question (and nice to meet you again!) If you are matched to UChicago through the Questbridge program, you will learn of that information from Questbridge in early December. If matched, this is a binding decision, so you will attend UChicago (or whichever other ranked school you are matched with). If you are unmatched to any of your ranked schools and wish to remain in our applicant pool, we will then issue you an admissions decision during our Early Action round. Going unmatched does not mean you are not a good candidate for admission-- we sometimes do not match with every student who we might wish to admit, so it is still possible to be admitted (or deferred, or denied) Early Action if you do not match through Questbridge.

Hamington, you will definitely want access to the account, as it is where we will eventually post your admissions decision. Go ahead and email us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu to let us know you have not yet received this account.

Enoughnerve, I think it is appropriate if your theater piece includes this word; I would say it would not be appropriate to write an essay that includes swear words, but we understand that monologues/other theater is a different kind of medium, and will not be offended so long as the material is presented tastefully.

Doremi, it’s a SUPER fun place to be!

How will I know if UChicago has received my SAT scores and transcript?

Hello Grace!

I was an Early Action applicant. I sent in my application materials on time, but both the Common App and my UChicago account says they received my application an entire date after the deadline. I’m not sure if this has to do with a server overload or Common App glitches, since I received a confirmation email from both the school and the app that stated that the application was received before the deadline. Does this mean the school no longer recognizes my application as part of the Early Action pool?

I have the same question as billiamfeng. Common App says that I submitted both by the EA deadline, but on my U Chicago account, it says that both the Common App and U Chicago supplement were received on the 11th.

Hi Grace!

I’m an early action applicant. I already have a UChicago account but I didn’t see the link to “checking my application status”. Is it still unavailable? Or is it just me being silly not finding the link?

billiamfeng and debater, no need to worry. We consider your application to be on-time for Early Action and you will be considered during that round.

ramsdale, we are still processing a lot of material that has come in to our office; once all of that material has been processed, we will then open up the ability for students to view everything we have received and resubmit anything that might be missing, but that feature is not open yet.

Thanks Grace!

Thanks, Grace!

Thanks Grace! :)

Hi, Grace. I recently submitted my application to Uchi as a questbridge finalist but it has been 3 weeks and haven’t heard from the office. I need an account from the office so i can request for an interview in my area. I e-mail the office and was able to log in to my account but there is no option that allows me to request an interview. The application direction does not help either. Help!!

I see how to do it now. There is a section after you sign in called the forms section above portfolio section. The problem is, i don’t see the forms section. What’s wrong?

Cyanation, the time by which a student may express interest in an alumni interview has passed, but if you were not able to request one because you did not have access to your account, you may email your regional admissions counselor to let them know of your interest, and we will try to accommodate you if we can.

Hi Grace
Can you briefly explain how the quarter and core programs work.

Omar, our students attend 3 academic quarters per year (summer quarter is officially “off” but we do offer some courses during the summer to interested students) during which our students take 3 or 4 classes at a time to be considered full time. Our core curriculum comprises 8 different subject areas (humanities, social sciences, civilization studies, math, physical science, biological science, foreign language, art/music/drama) which all of our students, regardless of major, will take at some point during their College experience. You don’t get to take any humanities course and have it count for the Core, but we also don’t have just one course within each subject area that all students must take-- you can choose from a small variety of Core-satisfying options. Most of our Core courses are very small, discussion style classes where you will interact very closely with faculty and other students. You’re welcome to learn more about the Core (and what kinds of courses are included in it!) here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/academics/core.shtml

Hi. I submitted my Common App at 9 p.m. on Nov. 8th, the day it was due for Early Action, and the Common App said it went through, but the next day it said it was submitted Nov. 9th. The email for my UChicago account came on Nov. 11th and it says it received the Common App parts on the 11th. Does that mean I am not actually being considered for Early App?

Hi, UChicago, I applied EA but I’m thinking about changing my course load next semester, if I get accepted, do I need to notify the admissions office about this?
If I get deferred, do I still need to notify the admissions office about this? If so, how?

Hi Uchicago,
My daughter is an US citizen studying in India. She submitted her EA application on 29th Oct. She published a book recently on lulu.com. How do we get this information i.e. link for the book added to her application ?

Thanks

The book was mentioned in the activities list of the application, but the URL information was not given.

Further, she has already completed her interview.

CodenameVerity and others experiencing this issue, if you submitted your app on or before November 8th, then we consider your application on time for early action-- even if your application was not “confirmed” or downloaded until a later date. Please don’t worry, you will be considered for early action.

UChicagoAllDay, you may email your regional admissions officer to let them know if you do choose to change your schedule.

Mom2npskid, your daughter is also welcome to email her regional admissions officer to update her about the publication of her book if she wishes to, but if it is listed on her Common Application activities, this is not strictly necessary.
