UCHICAGO RD CLASS OF 2019

Waitlisted too! ><
Hey guys, getting waitlisted is somewhat good news! It means we’re super competitive! And there’s still hope! all the best!

Congrats to all accepted! You guys are amazing! And to those rejected, good luck for the other schools!

@Marisa58‌ for sure! Where else did you apply?

@onceuponamom I know. I went to their interview and within two weeks they sent me an acceptance letter. Way before they release decisions. Also their whole student body is the class of 2019 at UChicago. I wasn’t sure until one of the students called me to invite me to a weekend visit, two minutes before Uchicago decision was released. I take that as a sign.

Congrats all who got accepted! I still haven’t checked my decision- at a key club convention that won’t be over until 11pm- I don’t want to to check until I get home so I can film a reaction lol

@thebingbong well the amount of people wait listed depends on the colleges expected yield. While UC’s yield may change year to year since it’s a lower ivy for some, they over wait-list people. Let’s say 400 people will choose to go elsewhere. UC may wait list 1000. For hundreds of applicants they really don’t have a chance, but UC still puts them on the list. It’s pretty gimicky in my opinion.

@vozvratsaa‌ YES THANK YOU my GPA is lower than other people on here and I’m now like what

Definitely a sign.

If you choose to remain on their list could you still choose to be wait-listed on other schools? Or does being wait-listed bind you to certain terms?

LOL I got rejected. Kind of expected it though, with the fierce competition and everything. Congrats to those who are accepted! I’m just waiting for my Boston College and USC notifications haha XD

Does anyone know around how many applicants UChicago waitlists?

Congratulations to all of those rejected, as well!

(Felt like we shouldn’t restrict all of the praise to those who are accepted)

I doubt you have to make any commitment to be waitlisted.

Generally @Funnehh‌ you can accept multiple waitlists.

Waitlisted… At least it’s not a rejection! I feel like there are a lot of waitlists this year based on this thread. But in the big picture, remember that this is the #4 school in the country. So being waitlisted is a good sign! Best of luck to everyone, and congrats if you got in!

Last year they apparently wailisted over 4000, I wasn’t aware it was such a common decision

Waitlisted, which I’m incredibly surprised about considering I have a 31 ACT and a 4.3 weighted GPA. I had a really unique essay though so maybe that’s what did it.

If we sign up for the UChicago waitlist, that doesn’t prevent us from being able to sign up for other schools we get waitlisted for, right?

For those of you with decisions, did you get an e-mail telling your decision was ready on your portal? My DD was deferred early action and she hasn’t received a notification e-mail yet.

How many accepted off waitlist last year?

Example from 2012: “Locally, the University of Chicago’s waitlist grew from 1,033 in 2009 to about 3,000 in 2012, the school said. The school’s newspaper, The Chicago Maroon, reported the waitlist had about 500 names in 2003.”

Lol, don’t know much about current numbers, it can probs be looked up. I didn’t apply so, I’m not that interested in current numbers. Good luck to all!

UChicago prefers to defer and waitlist students rather than outright rejecting people. The vast majority of applicants (at least those on CC) in the EA round were deferred. I was actually surprised to receive a direct rejection. UChicago historically is never very forthright in administering concrete admissions decisions
