Don't let the hype scare you. Don't let them get you down. The application is between you and the admissions committee only. Don't forget that. Put yourself there, let them know that you are behind the paper emoting every word, every ounce of sense. I don't have perfect grades. I am not an athlete or a URM or a legacy. I am who I am, and I made sure that that was understood. Maybe it was luck. Maybe it was a combination of factors, or just one outstanding particular. But it worked, and I'm grateful.

Essays, essays, essays!! Start them early. With the U of C ones they should be specially written for U of C. Your essay is the place to win over the admissions people.

[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul][/li]I was SO very excited about Chicago this summer because it had the rep of being all discussions and debates and "life of the mind" and what not. And then came a very nasty surprise with my application so I'm kind of peeved at them

My parents were completely against me going to Chicago (they want me to stay in CA), plus I did my entire app four hours before it was due. I was expecting to get completely rejected. 1900 SATS and 680 on two SAT II's. I'm shocked! I'm so glad I got wait listed at least! I am not asking to be put on the official wait list because I decided the school is too far away for me, but yeah. :)

I am truly happy. A big "thank you" to everyone on this board that offered me advice or gave me information about UChicago.

Looking forward to meeting all of you who got in! You guys are probably smarter than I am. =]

My grades and extracurriculars are nothing special at all. It's probably the essays that got me in. I am so grateful! Good luck to everyone who got wait-listed.
