[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: For those of you who got in congrats! And for those of you who were wait listed DO NOT let it get you down. I know exactly how you feel (I was rejected SCEA from Stanford). It sucks, but just realize that in a few days you'll be just as happy as you were before. If they don't think you were good enough, then don't worry about wasting your time being miserable over an admissions decision from somebody who doesn't even know you. Go on and achieve great stuff, and in 15 years from now when you make some big discovery take satisfaction in knowing that this one rejection letter didn't make or break your future.

Subjective

Essays: My short essays were pretty good, but I think it was the long essay (Option 5) that really pushed me forward. It was about the pitfalls of black American society, and how it pushes up very few while dragging a majority down in the dust. There was a very poetic flow to it, and I think it came from my use of a Charles Dickens' line in the intro. "'Tis a far, far better than that I do now", and all that jazz. Very dramatic.
*Teacher rec- One from my AP Biology Teacher, and another from my AP Psych/AP Gov teacher. I never read them.

Re: essays

I described to a friend once whose writing process is like "brainstorm, fast draft, edit, edit, edit, revise, revise, revise." My writing process is like "brainstorm, grow frustrated, lie on the floor, brainstorm, research, google essays for inspiration, fall asleep while brainstorming, outline, draft, revise." Different writing processes fit different personalities. Slacker, perfectionist, procrastinator, chronic BSer, analytical and precise, etc.

I would describe DS's method as: contemplate, go read a book, write, take a nap, get something to eat, edit, pet the dog, edit, decide to largely rewrite, IM, play COD4, edit, edit, IM, talk about it, edit, hit 'send.'

His research methods are much the same. ;)

I got one of the University Scholar scholarships, $10K/yr. Just in case anyone wants to put it with my stats for research or whatever.

Why I think I was accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I got lucky with my essay[*] Other thoughts: It's a great school, and they offered me a $10,000 a year scholarship. Still will probably be too expensive, though...

Bambee those are some great stats you have there.. probably explains why you were offered a $10,000 a year scholarship.

Decision: accepted

SAT: 23something
SAT IIs: 700, 780, 750
ACT:

Subjective:

Essays: i chose the picture essay ("describe a picture and explore what it wants") and followed my train of thought as i completed a painting. "why chicago" essay basically talked about my long and involved five-year relationship with the university. the other essay was about e.e. cummings and brecht theater.

Teacher Recs: one excellent, the other one had to be a math/science rec and i think he sent it in a month late.

Counselor Rec: didn't read. i got a new guidance counselor this year so probably not too personal

Hook (if any): art portfolio? no idea.

Location/Person:

*School Type: large public
*Gender: female
*Financial Aid Candidate: yes

*Other Factors: a lot of art stuff and community service; scholarships to art schools, lit mag art editor, working with disabled children (started an art program), varsity sport, president of school's art/community service club, ESL teacher, three jobs, commissioned for paintings, etc
*General Comments: chicago was my last application and possibly my messiest... i opened the 10,000 grant letter and was shocked.

congrats to everyone! i've always loved this school and making the final decision is going to be hard.

Decision: Accepted

Rank: top 10%

Other stats:

Subjective:

Essays: I chose option #5 and used my common application essay of 1.1k words, writing about global warming and how it affects me on a personal basis.

Teacher Recs: don't know.

Counselor Rec: don't know.

Hook (if any): Perhaps wining several in-school and out-of-school Mathematics awards?

Location/Person:

State or Country: Hong Kong

School Type: Private

Ethnicity: Asian

Gender: Male

Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: A hosts of community services, chess club president, school magazine contributor, math contests.
Why I think I was accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Just happy with the decision.. can't be bothered much.
Other thoughts: Just have to wait for a decision from UPenn Wharton, should I be accepted I'll be choosing between a more liberal education as opposed to a more professional education. I think my chances are slim though I just found out I was rejected to Stern Business School of NYU.
