UChicago RD Stats/Decisions Thread

Who else applied RD? There seems to be a LOT of EAers out there and although they are, righfully of course, ****ed off for the delay, how bad is this going to affect us? I'm guessing we will hear back June 1-15 :(

My stats:

Current School: CUNY Baruch College
College GPA: 3.5 (It should be around 3.8+ this semester)
HS GPA: Pretty bad, around 2.6 for years 9-11 (very hard school) and around 90ish for year 12.
SAT: 800 CR, 720 M, 700 W =2220
Recs: 1 got his Masters degree from Chicago, 2 other great ones hopefully.
ECs: Great throughout HS, nothing that stands out in College
Essays: I thought they were pretty good.

Chicago is my 1st choice.

And yes, I have nothing else to do.

I also applied RD. I'm currently studying in Russia and want to get out from my crapy school. Chicago is really my 1st choice but honestly i don't think i will get in (

Current School: Moscow University Touro
College GPA: 3.8
HS GPA: 5.0/5.0 (got gold medal, which is given to approx 3% of all high school graduates in the country)
SAT: 550 CR, 720 M, 630 W (yeah, this is why i'm not getting into UChicago :( )
TOEFL: bad, 263 (this is the second reason)
Recs: 4, one from a professor who taught 2 of my courses during the last summer session at Uchicago, another one is from my employer and other 2 are from my current professors, hope they all are good enough
ECs: probably not common for the US, in Russia we dont have such an idea as "Extracurricular Activity" and thus no community service, numerous clubs or the like. No one is actually encouraged or strives to do that. However, i managed to create a pretty solid list of what i did during HS and college: 12 years of music, visual arts, student club, student government, sports, academic competitions etc...
Essays: decent for a non-native speaker

I guess it may be a good thing not a lot of people responded...smaller pool :P

alethia: Is Moscow University Touro the one that has one of the buildings of the 7 Sisters? I visited Moscow 2 summers ago and it was amazing...From the history to the women, I loved all of it. My parents will be moving to that region this fall (not in Russia though) and I can only get there via China or Russia and I will probably visit Moscow again soon:) My favorite part was the 7 Sisters (or at least thats what I think they were called). I think they were meant to be 8 or something to celebrate the 8 centuries of the Russian Empire during Stalin. Now there one is a university, one is a hotel, one is the Foreign Affairs building... yeah. It was really beautiful.

As long as your essays show enough passion for Chicago and learning, I think you have a great shot really. Your SATs arent amazingly high but Chicago is known for being forgiving in that department, and you arent a native speaker so that will also help you out. As far as I know, TOEFL is more about getting above a certain number rather than being a factor for admissions. Most colleges have a cut off point and as long as you are above that I think your good.

Good luck :)

jacknjill, wow thanks for your support! :)
I'm glad you liked Moscow. It seems as you know much more about it than I do. It took me a while to understand what you were talking about :). Nah, unfortunately, my school is not in one of those buildings. It's in a small former KGB building though, haha :) The one, which occupies the tower is Moscow State University, a really nice and beautiful place for both studying and hanging out. They say there is a huge underground city under this building that was built during the cold war.

Hehe thats still cool though (KGB building). I really want to go back to Russia. Oh well...

I called Chicago today and asked when RD candidates will be notified and she (Crystal) said May 15th. After asking a couple more questions, I said before closing "so I can expect a decision on the 15th" and she said "well, after the 15th"...what does that mean!? Oh well I guess we have to wait and see. I don't think there are nearly as many RD applicants as there were EA's.

Any one else here a RD?

Does the credentials link show up for you all?

basically, i never had it (it was there only for 3 days after I submitted the application)

I never had it either.... Do you think we should call in about it?

i called in once or twice and both times was told that the link would appear in next few days. as it never appeared afterwards i decided that calling in was useless. i just check my credentials by phone

I'm also a regular decision applicant. I never got the credential link either, so don't worry. I called in to check on my application materials-- and was told they've recieved everything.

I'm starting to feel bad for Crystal-- it seems like she has to deal with all of our complaints when she doesn't have much to do with the whole process.

I should be writing a lab report thats due soon-- but I guess I'll post my stats for procrastination's sake.

Current School: DePaul University (Chicago)
College GPA: 3.6 or 3.7
HS GPA: 3.4
ACT: 28
Recs: Hopefully some good ones. I've applied to U Chicago 2 times before, so I hope they have my old ones on file too!
ECs: Lots of community service, internship at NIH, nothing too exciting.

Essays: I think they were pretty amusing-- but I guess it depends on whos reading them.

Yeah. Its hard enough having to tell XXXX amount of kids the same thing when everything is normal, but hearing them complain when their things get delayed must suck. But its a job...you cant really choose which phones to pick up. Oh well.

I never had a cred link up either. I called a couple of days after the deadline and they said I had everything but my application fee. I found this interesting as I payed online and I hadnt sent the document saying which courses I took so far/am taking/will take. I guess they don't look at that.

I'm RN as well...Jerry told me that they would have decisions by May 15...this can mean one of two things:

1) They are going to mail out decisions on that date (and with the experience that pretty much ever EA applicant had, that means two weeks afterwards) or

2) They will be mailing out decisions up to that date.

When I spoke to him last, Jerry said I could call him on the 15th and ask him for my decision over the phone.

Wow thats...exciting! Damn.

I wasnt expecting to hear for another month or so. I'm all pumped up now.

Only about 36 hours left guys and gals. Assuming its all on time of course... while it would really hurt to get rejected, I can see why it would benefit me and how I would be more prepared applying next year. The way I look at it, I AM going to Chicago. If I get rejected this time I'll start the application process before and prepare my year with more thought. If I get in, I don't know if I'll make it to Chicago from celebrating so much ;)

i don't think they will be on time...

I don't think we'll get them tomorrow but probably by the end of the week. I think there are a lot less applicants in the RD pool. I mean, look at CC, only a few people post on this thread, while the EA thread is huge.

ya I agree...I am definitely giving Jerry a ring tomorrow morning though in an attempt (however futile) to get some info

I'm absolutely freaking out. I have even consulted my trusted Muppet Eight Ball in the matter..."Bork" was the answer.

And so, speculation and anxiety prevail.

So I just called Chicago...
Me: Hi, I was wondering when decisions for RD transfer applicants are going to be coming out.
Some lady: Sometime next week.
Me: Oh, so they are delayed?
SL: (sighs, pauses) yes.

If Chicago wasn't my 1st choice and I wasn't in love with the school itself, I would have stopped caring.
