The only ones qualified to answer would be Doyle or Phillips. Personally, I'd rather never hear Doyle's voice again in my life, and I've never been able to contact Phillips. The front desk people don't have a clue, I'm sure. So there's really no point in asking. Even if you talked to someone higher up, they probably wouldn't tell you the real reason anyway. They insist that they reject perfectly qualified applicants all the time.

Here are the reasons I think I wasn't accepted: I've never visited Chicago, I never had an interview, and I would need lots of aid to attend. (I know they say they're need blind, but sometimes I wonder if they don't occasionally take a peek from under their blindfold.) I also don't know how many transfers Chicago takes from community colleges, but I'm guessing that they take less than most other schools (just a hunch).

Many need-blind schools--esp. those committed to meeting full need--will take finances into consideration "at the margin". Being broke or otherwise financially unstable can be a tiebreaker, and not in your favor.

I would like to call them and discuss why I wasn't admitted, but I can't have that conversation now with everything else that I have going on.

I've called Phillips and Doyle numerous times this week and left messages but I haven't heard back and obviously am not holding my breath. I did talk with Keshia (I think) who promised to ask them and said I should call on wednesday and ask her. I trust her more than I trust the rest but whatever.

At least I got into Northwestern ;) So all those posts I made saying Chicago is better, I'd like to edit them now .... haha

Have you recieved your aid packages yet? I was told about three weeks ago that my file was complete and I'd hear back at the end of the week. That being said, it has been three weeks and I still haven't heard from them. I did get my course evaluation back though.. Anyone got any info?

I got a financial aid package over a week ago, but it offered ridiculously little grant money and expected my mom to pay way more than was reasonable. We faxed a letter of appeal immediately, and called several times, but since then there has been no response. I then wrote them a very succinct letter expressing my disappointment in their handling of the entire application process, and informing them that I simply could not afford to attend, and was therefore turning them down. Oh well... I'm not too bothered. Seriously, this whole ordeal really killed my interest in the school. I wonder how many other prospective students Chicago has lost simply because they just got fed up.

Sub_atomic-- when did you get your acceptance letter in the mail?

I'm just trying to figure out whats going on.. I sent in my deposit a few days after getting my letter and I'm worried that if aid is stingy I might not be able to afford to go.

I thought about sending them a formal letter complaining about the whole process, but since I might apply next year I didn't think it would be a good idea.

gtfup: So you sent your deposit in before seeing how much aid you will be getting? Why?

I got the acceptance email in early May... the actual letter came a couple weeks later (I think the 18th-19th probably) - I was EA. The reason financial aid was so slow is anyone's guess.

Hey, has anyone received their credit evaluations yet? I just found that one page on their site that is for new transfers. Are we supposed to get login information for that page in the mail?

notoriousniq, many have. And congratulations. Your optimism and lack of bitterness are refreshing, but many of us are a bit jaded at this point. I feel like a theme is evolving here, actually. I vote to rename this thread the UChicago RD Transfer Wound Licking Thread.
