Hi everybody! A while ago, @AxolotlMaster posted a helpful overview of the RIBS program at the University of Chicago (http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1924032-ribs-uchicago-summer-program-info.html). I’d like to elaborate a bit. This is a great program; I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in research in biology!
This year, they expanded the course to include CRISPR and NC2 hybridization, so there’s even more cool stuff going on. RIBS itself is wonderful, but the opportunities this program can provide after completion are unparalleled. In his post, @AxolotlMaster hinted at the “SUPER competitive” RIBS 2. There are virtually no resources online that detail this experience, except this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPPzl93fMYc) that I thought I’d share with you all. It showcases some of the current RIBS 2 students and what they’re working on in their labs. If you have any questions about RIBS 1 and 2, I’d be happy to answer them here!
What are the requirements for enrollment and is it hard to get into RIBS 1?
@JovanSt Off the top of my head, you should probably have at least 96th percentile plus scores (again, this is not a hard and fast rule, just what most of my RIBS 1 peers had) and compelling extracurriculars. I think last year’s acceptance rate was a little lower than 20%.
