Is U of C's social scene really THAT bad? Can you find a good party on a regular basis or does "fun come to die"? I'm an outgoing person and enjoy academics, but I would like more than an academic experience at my univesity of choice.

For god’s sake, Chicago, believe it or not, is still a college, fun of horny immature college kids just like every other school :)

Yes, the parties won’t be destroying campus every day of the week, maybe just on the weekends, but that doesn’t mean Chicago is some theocratic nerd dictatorship.

Sure, the tenor of the parties might be a little bit different, but that all depends on which parties you’re talking about. Frat parties, dorm parties, apartment parties. Diversity is not deprivation ;).

^Amen! (10 char)

Polyosophy, please define fun.

If you don’t get that “Where fun comes to die” is a joke, please don’t apply.

“Chicago: Where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA”
“Whip me, spank me, make me read the Iliad”

^Chicago has that kind of sense of humour. I like it, you might not.

Moreover, on the occasions which I toured Chicago, I came either on the night of an amusing party (there was one I heard about where the admission price was directly related to amount of clothing worn) or the day or so after a night of debauchery.

Then there’s Scav.

There is certainly fun to be had. It’s college.

I just got back from a day of hanging out with fellow co2014’ers and CAAP’ers, and let me say, not only are these people not antisocial, but they are some of the friendliest, funniest people I’ve every met. If you want a place that’s inclusive rather than exclusive, open-minded rather than provincial, look no farther/further. And the most intellectual thing we did was try and figure out the correct pronounciation of CAAP ;)

Chicago - home to Second City ! it’s a great town.
