I believe they said that they would release decisions May 1

Hello everyone. My name is Kan Yuan and I am a sophomore at Fudan University, Shanghai. Before I submitted my UChicago application, I did not know how hard it was for international transfer applicant to get in. But I guess it is worth the effort for a try, otherwise I would regret. I am waiting anxiously for the release of decisions.

Does anybody know more about international transfers at UChicago?

Hope you guys all get admitted by your dream school:)

@tiffanystar1019

That is way too weird because I’m also applying from OCC. You’re interested in philo? Tell me you’re not taking a Contemporary Philosophy class at OCC right now because there is a girl in my class named Tiffany.

@gravitas2

Where did you get the 2% for UChicago? I’ve never heard about it having a lower acceptance rate for transfers than UPenn–considering that UPenn is an Ivy. I’ve heard that UChicago accepts around 15% or more because even Yale has a 3% acceptance rate for transfer. They have an admission Tumblr so let me ask. I would really like to know if it’s 2% though.

Ugh, I take that back about the stats. I am finding conflicting information so I’ll wait until the admission people get back to me.

@hopefulhippo. Here is the data. Taken from truth123’s post on 2/3/2013

@hopefulhippo Penn’s overall first-year admit rate this year was 12.1%. UChicago’s is lower–8.8%. UChicago has passed up Penn in selectivity, as have Stanford and MIT. Being Ivy League isn’t what it used to be. Those schools just can’t compete based on name over quality any more.

P.S. UChicago’s admit rates–whether for overall admission, early admission, and transfer admission–have fallen so quickly in recent years, you will be greatly misled about the current situation by looking at information even a year or two old.

by that logic, cornell’s acceptance rate should be lower than that of MIT? lol

Hey truth123 there is a typo for Stanford’s transfer applicants number. You might want to correct that in your updated list. Moreover, everyone and anyone should note Stanford has the lowest acceptance rate in the country now. I assume their transfer acceptance rate will be lower than Harvard’s as well. The notion of the “ivy league” setting the standard for excellence is rather outdated amongst the academic elite and now is translating to the general public as well.

Thanks @gravitas2

Typo corrected!

WOW @tiffany & @hopeful- I’m also at OCC as a philosophy / computer science major. Small world. Maybe UChicago will let all three of us in as an experiment.

So are decisions coming out on May 1 or what?

All the website says is “early May,” so I presume before May 15th.

goood luck everyone!

@Sakari in the application status it says “at the beginning of May”, so I think it would be earlier than that…

Oh yeah, I didn’t notice that. I haven’t received any email yet, but there probably will be one coming soon…good luck to everyone! Fingers crossed.

Anyone received decisions yet? I’m so anxious!

No, not yet. I keep logging into my account and checking. Has anyone else actually had their full credential-checking ability opened up? It keeps listing my materials, but not the ones submitted on my behalf (teacher recs, transcripts, etc). I called the admissions office way back when to check, and they said that I had gotten everything in, but it’s unnerving to see that I can’t check it online.

admissions decisions will be out May 7 toward the end of the work day

@malleilactone, Where did you here that??

I emailed them and they said the results would come out later today!
