General Comments :
For those of you who are stressed about the college process or are let down by released decisions, keep your head up. I know it sounds cliché, but I learned this after getting rejected from 15 different colleges (and no waitlists) last year and was lucky enough to study for one year at my current school. UChicago has been my top choice. I applied early to UChicago in December 2016, was deferred then rejected. So I came here and worked my butt off, and I built great relationships with profs, joined interesting clubs, and got the GPA I wanted. I honestly thought this was impossible but trust me, your work will eventually pay off–not just in college admissions process but also in graduate school apps and so on. GL to you all.
congrats!
Nice!

@ifownly is your HS GPA weighted or unweighted? Any tips for future transfer?
@Legends Unweighted GPA. Honestly since I don’t know why I was accepted I cannot pinpoint to specifics, but I think two important things are your essays and the rigor of your college curriculum. You must present a really, really compelling reason for why you need to leave your university, particularly if your current institution is deemed as being “highly regarded” or “prestigious.” Also you need to again present a really compelling reason why UChicago is a better fit to you, given the reasons why you want to leave your current college for another.
You also need to take challenging classes. UChicago is known for its academic rigor and so you must perform well in a challenging curriculum to demonstrate that you will be able to thrive in UChicago’s classrooms. While my GPA isn’t 4.0, I think that the rigor of my classes compensated for my less than ideal GPA. I did not take any 1 level intro classes and opted to take three-level and five-level courses, which are intended for third year majors and 1st year MA students. Thankfully, because my college operates by an open curriculum, I was able to take those courses.
