Uchicago Transfer Applicants Fall 2019

Hey guys, I know it is super late, but I don’t see any thread for Uchicago transfers. I was just wondering if there were anyone else who has applied already too.

Yeah I did. Hopefully the decisions come out early May. Have you heard anything?

@mikeobrien21 Nope not yet, I hope hey come out soon but I feel like the chances I’ll get in are soooo low

I know right! I think I read somewhere that last year they only let in like 40 applicants. What school did you apply to and do you think you have any hooks that set you apart?

Hi everyone! Transfer applicant here, thought I’d introduce myself:

3rd time applicant. ED got deferred, then rejected. Applied last year as a transfer, got waitlisted and then rejected. 3rd times a charm?

Anyways, numbers.

–3.94 C-GPA. (Relevant courses, all As: Intermediate econ classes, econometrics, calc II, financial accounting, constitutional law through law school prof)

– Okay-ish private school. Ranked T70 US News.

–74 ish completed credits, 19 in progress. (Overloading FTW)

–Econ/ Engineering major. Currently in a 3-2 engineering program with Columbia, would be for Operations Research. Uchicago doesn’t have engineering, but they have Econ with data science which is close to OR (and what I actually want) and I’ve spoken to Profs there that do research in OR.

–Very low HS-GPA of 3.4. Not at all impressive public high school from rural state

–33 ACT

–Tons of community service: Boy Scouts, search & rescue pilot, etc.

–ECs- Varsity Show Choir, speech & debate (top 100 ranked. 3x national qualifier), speech & debate coach, concert choir.

–Work Experience - Ran a small snack shop in Michigan for a summer (was amazing), contract ferry pilot, flight instructor.

–LOCs- 9/10. Harvard law graduate wrote one, she loves me. Other was writing professor. Current math prof (UofC grad) offered to call UofC for me, so 10/10 if I get waitlisted.

–I am also 5th gen legacy.

UChicago is my dream school. I love it there: the architecture, food, students, city, etc. I keep a poster they sent me 3 years ago above my bed as motivation. I’ve probably spent >100 hours on applications to UofC. I started my first application about 3 years ago, it’s been my dream since then. Bettering my transfer application is my biggest motivator in college.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi guys!

Here are my stats!

College: Public Research University – Freshman with Junior Standing, Honors College
Major: Biological Sciences, Pre-med
ACT: 34
College GPA: 4.00
First Semester Courses (15 hours): Calculus I, Cell Biology, Intro to Psych, Honors Core Class
Second Semester Courses (18 hours): Calculus II, Genetics, Academic Writing II, Honors Core Class, General Chemistry II (Lab, Lecture)
ECs: Shadowing a physician, volunteer at a clinic, research assistant at my school’s college of medicine in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, part of my schools TEDx chapter, and wrote a research article for my school’s Honors College journal for health-related students.
LOR: strong from my Cell Bio (200 level) professor who I had a strong relationship, and my Calc I professor.

HS Unweighted GPA: 3.65
HS Weighted GPA: 4.3
I know the unweighted isn’t great so there’s that.
Also, I got waitlisted last year when I applied as a senior in HS, and obviously didn’t get in lol

@mikeobrien21 I applied to Northwestern, Uchicago, Rice, UPenn, Columbia, Yale. That’s also in the order of my preference. I’m a Muslim Indian male that doesn’t need any financial aid, I don’t know if those are hooks. Also I am engaged and my fiancé lives in Chicago which I wrote about and is one of my main reasons for transferring

@igottatransfer I also am in an 3:2 engineering program with Columbia and wanted to do Industrial engineering. I didn’t write about it in my essays at all but yeah that’s cool that you also go to a liberal arts school that has that program w Columbia

@igottatransfer Literally shocking that you want to attend UChicago but don’t know about the Institute of Molecular Engineering at UChicago. I can only hope any of your essays don’t have the words…I know UChicago doesn’t have engineering…

@CU123 I’m getting a really aggressive vibe from your comment. I meant industrial engineering/Operations research, which UChicago 100% does not have as a major. You appear to be in the general field of molecular engineering by a quick glance at your post history, I didn’t mean to offend anyone.

@ilovechicago good luck!

@studentex420 Good luck to you! I didn’t write about engineering much in my application. I did express interest in OR research though. The 3:2 program is certainly a wonderful back-up to Chicago. Are you an econ major as well?

not an issue @igottatransfer just trying to enlighten those who might not know otherwise.

Based on past threads the release date will be the first Thursday of May which is May 2nd this year at around 4pm CST (5pm EST). The sign that the application checklist has disappeared means they have already made their decisions and will be releasing next week. Good luck to everyone, I am really nervous!!

I wish they would just release them now! This wait is torture. I’m pretty sure it’s against the Hague convention as a cruel and unusual punishment lol. XD

@OwlOfAthena haha I totally agree, but at least Uchicago has a definitive date when they release it, Northwestern has rolling admission and every wave I freak out if I am going to receive a decision and still haven’t. Its almost been a month since the first wave and I actually hate them for this torture

@studentex420 Same here! It’s looking like we might be getting a big Northwestern wave Wed, then UChicago a day later. Right before all my finals lol. Hopefully it’s good news. Good luck!

@igottatransfer My finals start this monday and I am kinda dreading it bc I have gotten a bit of senioritis from this whole transfer process which is the worst. The thing is, we still might not hear back this next wave and would have to keep waiting until the end of May which would be aweful. I hope I hear back but I am willing to wait if I get in haha

@studentex420 oh yeah. Hopefully it’ll be good news from UofC and then it’s all that matters.

@igottatransfer lowkey would rather go to northwestern than Uchicago but ofc I would be happy with either haha

When will they release their decision?
