I’ll probably visit but wanted to hear what you guys think…
For me,
UChicago=Duke> Dartmouth vs. Georgetown>=UCBerkley>NYU
But these are my preferences according to my likings and needs.
Depends on what you want to study or do.
if you are doing economics - UC and UCB
Diplomacy - Georgetown
IB - Dartmouth
Fun - NYU.
Yeah I think it’s just I’m not too sure of what I want… I do want to have fun but I also care a lot about my studies. I’m hoping to major in something related to STEM but then maybe go into business (applied math, applied physics, accounting…etc.).
I like cities, yet not being in one is still fine…
Yup I am very indecisive
bump
have you visited each university?
I’ve never visited UChicago nor Georgetown (I’m in the NE) but have visited the rest.
I LOVED Georgetown’s campus. I love NYC. UCB is right next to SF, which is awesome. Dartmouth was a little too woodsy for me (but I wouldn’t not go there solely because of that).
I don’t think Dartmouth really has an edge over any of the other options, so if you prefer the others’ locations I would rule it out. But I might just be projecting because I’ve lived in NH for 16 years and am ready to leave.
hahaha
do you know what you want to major in? Visit Chicago and Georgetown; you never know, you might like them even more congrats on the acceptances by the way!
Since you’re not sure of your major, I’d choose between Dartmouth and Duke because they have the strongest reputation in both STEM and business.
UChicago has fantastic STEM (especially for pre-PhD) but weaker business placement.
Georgetown has weaker STEM and competing against McDonough grads for jobs will be rough.
NYU Stern is strong in business, but obviously much weaker in STEM (except for applied math).
Berkeley is decent for STEM but for business you’d have to apply to Haas which is not guaranteed.
Overall greatness at the undergrad level (very tight spaces between these rankings, obviously – choose based on fit…):
- UChicago
- Dartmouth & Duke
- Berkeley & Georgetown
- NYU
or
- UChicago, Dartmouth, Duke
- Berkeley & Georgetown
- NYU
Of course, Stern is among the top 10 or so business schools, making that a very attractive NYU degree.
These are all strong schools. They differ greatly though – do your homework to decide which fits you best.
ironically i have friends here at Stern that have decided to come to NYU over every one of these schools mentioned. I would choose between NYU, Dartmouth, & Duke. All have great job placement on Wall Street, with NYU having a little bit of an edge.
My personal opinion:
- UChicago
- UC Berkeley
- Duke
- Dartmouth
- Georgetown
- Stern
UChicago and Berkeley are the strongest for STEM. Chicago for the S and M, Berkeley for the T and E. Even though some (@goldenbear2020) will claim that Chicago/Berkeley are a step down in business placement from Duke/Dartmouth, from what I have seen, everyone who does reasonably well at any of these 4 schools gets a top business job (and I have seen plenty of students who didn’t do well at these schools, and still ended with a top business job). Also, the STEM students who go into business tend to avoid the soft jobs and usually do more quantitative roles (Quantitative Finance/Data Science), for which Chicago/Berkeley are significantly better.
Congratulations on an excellent set of alternatives.
It really depends what you are looking for. In terms of prestige: Duke followed by Dartmouth. Access to top IB/Strat. Consulting jobs: Duke, Dartmouth and NYU Stern. Top Academics: Duke, UChicago and Dartmouth. Most school spirit and top athletics: Duke. Most urban campus: NYU, UChicago and Georgetown. Prettiest campus, Duke’s Gothic Wonderland. Best fit: ?
Hopefully your campus visits will clarify what is important to you and where you feel most at home.
Thanks so much guys! I do hope revisiting will help!
