UChicago vs. Northwestern

Which one is harder to get into?

UChicago (((EA)))

or

Northwestern (((ED)))

They're very, very similar in admissions. Let's leave it at that.

:( but i would love an answer... lol thanks though.

anyone?

I don't think that's the question you should be asking. These are 2 very different institutions and the student experience is completely different at each. Despite the fact they're geographically close together, in many ways they exist in different universes. I'm an alum of one (grad school) and I can tell you I would have been miserable at the other. I have friends who graduated from the other - grad and undergrad - who loved it. It's really a matter of who you are and what you're looking for.

Look at both of these schools more carefully and see which (if either) appeals to you.

If you're even thinking about applying to Chicago EA, you're not ready to apply ED anywhere. How's that for an answer? :)

^agreed.

^agreed.

But if you really want an answer, I'd say an applicant applying to both would have a better chance at Northwestern than UChicago. Really, the schools are dissimilar enough I don't know why someone would apply to both though.

NU's ED may be easier if NU remains as generous on its ED as before. But that could change this year given the 19% jump in #applicants last year; based on # of seniors that have started NU's application, the associate provost for university enrollment expected this coming year would be another big one. According to a recent announcement by the NU's president, the new median for NU's college of arts and sciences is 1450.

Neither schools wants somebody who is thinking about which one is easier to get into.

Waitttt, I thought the 1450-60 was the average for students admitted? Not the WCAS median?

I thought we said in the thread above that there was no link to this information about the median being 1450?

The 1450 median for enrolled WCAS students comes from this source: http://www.northwestern.edu/provost/announce/linzer.html

ooooh dear. Remind me why I'm EDing again? xD I'm now a little bit below median......................................

can u even ED at NU and EA at U of C at the same time?

yes. EA at Chicago is not single choice.

^ well, the question is, does NU's ED allow you to apply to other schools early?

There aren't too many ED plans that don't allow you to apply early action... I think. Anyhow, ED for NU is not restrictive like that.

Yep, you can apply elsewhere EA or rolling decision at most ED schools, but, of course, if you get into the ED school, you have to go there, so it's not a good thing to do unless you have a clear first choice.
