I was accepted early to UChicago, and its been my first choice since I started thinking about college. The problem is, money is a huge issue and I'd graduate with about $21,300 in debt over four years. It is still the second cheapest school I was accepted to, but the cheapest is the Honors program at the University of Delaware, from which I would graduate with $14,000 in debt over four years. I'd give anything to go to Chicago, and I'm willing to work as hard as I can to afford it, but the fact is that I'll be graduating with a significant amount of debt. I'm not sure what my post-graduation plans are, but they may possibly involve law school or grad school, though not necessarily immediately after undergrad. What I want to know is whether its worth it to turn down a place like Chicago, which offers the best undergrad experience I could ever ask for, for a school that I like less but will be more affordable.

bump :)
anyone at all?

Well, if you really want to go to law school, you'll need a great GPA, which will be a bit easier to get at UDel Honors. Then again, $7,000 could be marginal, considering the fact that you can get a fairly well-paying job after graduating from a school like UChicago. I know that $21K sounds huge, but if you only think about the $7K difference, it might seem like less of a huge deal.

$7k over four years is not a good enough reason to turn down your dream school. Go to Chicago.

21k is not that much debt from Chicago, you will get a good job and pay it off, or your employer will pay it off for you. that wont happen from UDel

I agree with pursuing UChicago: If the only significant difference is $7K in debt over four years, that's not much, when you consider the overall value of the education that you'd be receiving. Especially if you feel that UChicago is the better fit, UDelaware has a totally different campus culture.
