UChicago vs. UVA Echols

Hello all!

Recently I was accepted into these two institutions and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to attend either of the university, but now I, unfortunately, have to decide between them. I know there have been previous CC posts on this topic, but many our seven-plus years old, thus most likely outdated, and the most recent one is geared towards business. Currently, I wish to pursue a premed track with a major in biology and literature/english. I am well aware of the overall rigor and premed rigor of Uchicago, possibly detrimental when applying to med schools, but I honestly would like the challenge, and I wasted four years of high school caring about GPA to know that its not my main priority though important. However, Echols allows me to explore various eclectic subjects which truly embody my type of learning style but I feel I would most likely take similar courses to the Uchicago core, which is still positive for Uchicago in my mind (I know that its paradoxical, Echols freedom + and Uchicago core +). What are your suggestions considering a premed track, interest in biology and literature?

Thanks for all your input and wisdom!

Note:
-The cost for UVA is slightly less than Uchicago but not enough to make a substantial sway to UVA for me
-Unfortunately, I have not visited either campus and with the ongoing circumstances, I might not have the opportunity but I am leaning towards Uchicago.
-I don’t really care about the “prestige” of Uchicago over UVA, I just want a good education/ pre-med program
-I do “vibe” with the intellectuality of Ucichago over UVA

Your post suggests that you have already made your decision to attend the University of Chicago. Congratulations 1

I would advise you to consider other, non-academic factors in your decision. Both institutions are excellent. If you don’t care about prestige, then factors such as location and the social scene should play a major role in your decision. Although, I do agree with Publisher. It seems you are already leaning towards U Chicago.

GPA for med school admissions definitely matters.

Worrying about your GPA in HS is silly because it doesn’t close long-term doors. A low enough GPA in college definitely does.
