Hello everyone, like most of you reading this, I have been waitlisted at U of C. I’ve done quite a bit of research concerning the matter but the only thing I can’t find is success stories. Has anyone heard of someone being admitted off of a waitlist or has been admitted themselves? Thank you for sharing!
Calls started coming in around this time to applicants who were taken off the list last year. This year is a little different because of ED.
Anybody hear anything about the waitlist? I’m just waiting here patiently cuz uchicago is my #1 choice.
I heard that calls would start next week
Really? Do you guys think I should mail my regional counselor again?
Maybe to refresh his memory of how badly I want to go.
Quick question guys, I have a lot of personal responsibilities at home, and my grades have dropped, but I only got As and B-'s last semester, and a D- in BC Calc… do you guys think I actually have a chance still?
@ChocoBananos123 oof… Unfortunately, I do think that those grades might haelve a negative impact on your chances to get off the waitlist. There are many other waitlistees who have maintained high grades.
Regardless, if you explained your situation well and have a good excuse, you might still have a slight chance. The chances are small for everyone so I would suggest taking this waitlist as a rejection. You’ve done everything you can at this point.
I appreciate you honesty.
Depends whether they ask for senior grades and when.
@ChocoBananos123
You would be offered waitlist off of your submitted application and your mid year submitted grades.
If you get the call, just get the grades up by the end if the year. They look at Year end grades next.
Good luck.
Any idea how many people got waitlisted
3000+
@HorsesPwn42 How do you know?
@Hizeus they always waitlist about 3000 people. A little more than half accept the waitlist, I think.
@pineappledragon Man, I just don’t know what to think at this point. I’m essentially in a haze of delusion, having unreasonably high hopes of getting off the waitlist.
@pineappledragon How many people do you think send a LOCI? Hopefully that increases my chances a significant amount.
@Hizeus Most people who are waitlisted in general (not sure for UChicago specifically) don’t send a LOCI and are just throwing their name in the hat for the waitlist. I think UChicago considers your initial application much more than your LOCI, but a good letter will never hurt. Maybe they waitlisted you on a whim–as they do with most people–or maybe they saw something in your personality they really liked.
Take everything what I say with a grain of salt, though. Waitlists are highly unpredictable, so they could so anything, especially with ED1 and ED2. Our only hope is that they grossly overestimated the RD yield. :-<
Does anyone know if money is a factor of being taken off of the waitlist? Would you have a better chance of being accepted if your parents can pay full tuition? If so, I don’t stand a chance lol
even though they are need blind, financial aid for domestic students become an issue if they run out of money they expect to give to a class.
I am sorry to inform you that “need blind” will turn into “need aware” in the area of remove student from waitlist. The school will deny that but that is the reality…,
