Here’s a thread to specifically talk about the waitlist this year. I haven’t seen one yet, so here it is. Good luck to everyone!
I made one but no one replied
I didn’t see it. You send your LOCI yet?
Has anyone heard back? In the past few years a few admits from the waitlist happened by aroumd this time.
there is no way offers are getting sent out before may. chill
Yes, admissions don’t know the exact yield before May, and most offers come the first few weeks of May, but they do admit people early. Perhaps I’m anxious, but I’m also curious. It’s stressful to wait, lol.
I sent my LOCI and it was pretty strong with a lot of new material. I was considering sending a second but my counselor did not recommend it.
Somewhere in the UChicago forum a parent has posted that one student has been pulled off the wait list. But the parent did not post any more details. I am somewhat surprised by the disclosure. I am NOT REPEAT NOT trying to raise your hope but if that parent’s post is true, AO is early in pulling students off wait list and one of you may get a call. So you guys keep your fingers crossed.
@85bears46 interesting, that could mean they have signs of a lower yield than anticipated. Or perhaps that one student was particularly exceptional. I’d expect to hear of more calls this week if that post is true. To everyone on the W.L.May the odds be ever in your favor
This is one data point and we can’t even verify whether that data point is valid. So it is unsound to leap on to the conclusion about yield.
Some parents do observe that for one particular case on the wait list, the candidate has a standing financial aid offer and that may imply this candidate has a much better chance of being pulled off wait list. So not all on the wait list is equal. We shall see how this develops.
Last year there were reports on CC as early as April 25 of AOs calling to take people from the waitlist

Question: I assume everyone has sent in a letter of continued interest to their regional admissions officer, but has everyone gotten anything in response? Sent a LOCI immediately after getting the WL notification, didn’t hear anything, so sent a follow-up note this week (with an added question of whether they expect to take people from the WL). Still no reply from the RAO.
I got a response from mine about a week after I sent my LOCI, which I sent the day the decision came out. I think some of the AOs do take a while to respond, especially if you’re from somewhere with a lot of applications, like Illinois or New York. It probably wouldn’t hurt to call to make sure they recieved your information.
Anyone know whether it is recommended to Send LOCI for the Spring Waitlist? Also, how does the gap year option work?

LOCI is suggested by admissions. When you indicate your interest in staying on the waitlist and check the 2024 box as well, UChicago may consider you for either 2023 or 2024 if they pick people from the waitlist. A handful of folks posted on CC last year that they got a call and an offer to join the class of 2023.
@Whatmew0rry that is why I’m not losing hope even though everyone’s been saying that there is no chance to get off the waitlist
What are your plans for gap year? I feel like if I were to grt in I’d sort of have to scramble.
@Dizzyquest I think I have my stuff planned out along with some research. I sent my letter in before RD came out so I really hope they consider it. I made sure to let them know that I would accept a gap year
can waitlist applicants can start by fall? (if they get in )
Just got a call from U Chicago admissions office. My DD was offered a guaranteed 2024 seat. Decision time now. DD was super disappointed when she was put on wait list. She is excited now but the gap year needs to be planned. Any ideas on how to fill the gap year? She was asked to make a decision by end of this week.
