UChicago Waitlist Thread

Waitlisted :frowning:

It’s possible their gap year option is because they impacted their students for CO 2018. I heard they had a very high EA acceptance rate. That’s all speculation though.

@SaraRose16 Why would they allocate a whole 10% more for waitlisted students? Are you sure that it isn’t 2% that are waitlisted, making it 10% total who are either accepted or waitlisted?

Waitlisted! Does anyone have statistics as to how many are WL, rejected, accepted, total applicants, etc? Will/Has Chicago release/d anything?

basically take UChicago waitlist as a no - seems pretty unlikely to get in. UChicago mentioned in an article on how colleges have more than 1000 on the wailist yet accept under 100… <a href=“Colleges grow their waitlists, leaving more students in limbo”>Colleges grow their waitlists, leaving more students in limbo;

Waitlisted. I was reading last years waitlist blogs. Looks like, we will know by May 8th. Uchicago will start sending acceptance / rejections from April 20th till May 8th 2014

I’m still pretty unsure what this “voluntary gap year” is all about…

@NWskier I ggogled it and found it on a site.

Are the wait list notices mailed out or e-mailed.

Thanks.

@KCTaxguy they sent an email to view your decision on their website.

So… Where else have ya’ll been accepted to?

As I understand it, the number of waitlisted applicants that are admitted every year depends largely on yield. While I think sometimes they have space for none, UChicago is planning on being able to take some students off of the waitlist this year according to this thread*, where they also detail the voluntary gap year option:

“The voluntary gap year reply option is available for students who have already been planning on or who are considering a gap year to let us know of their plans. It can be helpful in our planning to know who was otherwise considering a gap year. We do plan to be able to admit waitlisted students who are not interested in a gap year…this would allow you to be considered for admission for both this year and next year.”

On how selecting the gap year option impacts your chances for admission:

“At this time we are not certain how this will affect a students’ likelihood of admission off of the wait list, as we need to see how many students are interested in either option and how much space remains in our class after our admitted students have replied yes/no to their offer.”

Hi

I got wait listed at UChicago. My only other choice that I would like to attend is Wellesley, where I got accepted. However, I am really having doubts about Wellesley due to the fact that it is a women’s college, which I’m not exactly crazy about (though there are aspects about it that I like–“strong women”) and the fact that its not actually in a city. I grew up in a city and really love the anonymity and endless exploration.

Is it worth it to stay on UChicago’s wait list? I guess my main reservation is that I won’t have been able to go to revisit day, so I won’t know if it really is for me if I am accepted, which I know is unlikely. I’m also slightly terrified that UChicago will be too big… Any help? I’m just really struggling with deciding whether to accept my place on the wait list.

Any advice?

I cannot see what you will lose if you stay on the wait list - no money is involved. It is just a signal. You can worry about the fit if you get off the wait list. I believe you should be given several days to make decision if it happens.

Of course you should deposit at your current No. 1 school by May 1 since no one can say if UChicago will ever go to the wait list. IMO it may get into it bit. We will see.

Good luck!

According to one of the parents on the thread below, his son got off from the WL.

<a href=“Near shut out - Gap year or transfer? - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums”>Near shut out - Gap year or transfer? - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums;

That kid is wrestling for the school though. Although UChicago doesn’t “recruit,” that probably had something to do with it.

Hey all, I got in from the wait list two years ago. My understanding is that they ended up taking 15 kids off a wait list of 3000. I’m assuming they’ve learned a bit since then and decreased the size of the wait list accordingly, but just wanted to be straight with you: it’s very unlikely that there’s going to be much (or any) movement on the wait list, especially with the school overenrolled as it is.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. As of April 8th, I was taken off the wait list for UChicago and I couldn’t be more excited! Anyway, just wanted to drop by this thread to say that though getting off the wait list may seem impossible, as it certainly seemed for me, there’s still a chance that you will get in. You all are brilliant, and I wish everyone the best of luck!
