UChicago Waitlist Thread

Wow! How did they contact you?

The regional admissions officer for my area called me on Monday, asking how senior year was and my current interest in UChicago, and after telling him that yes, I would still love to go there, he offered me a spot in the class of 2018!

I guess if I can offer any advice for other people on the wait list, it’s that a solid letter to your regional admissions officer really can make a difference, since that’s the only thing I did after receiving my status on the wait list.

Letter as in email or post?

Yeah, I sent an email. Pretty much just followed the advice on this one cc thread about what to do if your wait listed.

If I haven’t sent an email now, is it just too late?

ivyleaguefan, if you’re still interested, I’d send it. Theoretically, it’s not too late till the start of Fall quarter in late September. Realistically, most of the waitlist activity will occur by mid to late May.

When is the earliest that we would hear anything? Also, if we change our mind and actually decide that we do want to take a gap year, should we email the admissions office to change our selection? (I’m attending revisit days and then seeing if there is a chance I would want to take a gap year)

I wanted to send an email right away when I got the waitlist notification but I decided to wait because UChicago said that Early April would be a good time to email them and so I waited and considered other options even though UChicago was still and has always been my first choice and now I’m terrified that I was too late and I ruined whatever minuscule chance that I had.

I emailed a while ago but I never heard anything back, not even a one word reply. Should I be worried?

@aribman‌ I sent my email like a week after I learned I got wait listed, so I think you should be fine.

@cutiedida‌ I never got a response via email either after I submitted my letter, so no worries there.

If anyone is worried about the fact that they haven’t gotten any notification about their status on the wait list yet, don’t be. They usually notify most wait listed applicants in like mid-May, though I guess they do notify a few of them earlier.

My counselor advised I wait to send my continued interest email, I just hope it’s not too late now (eek.)

For you guys that sent yours already, what did you say in it? I’ve gotten different advice from all around to either keep it brief or cram it with new accomplishments- how did you tackle it?

@marathe‌ Congratulations!!! Do you mind sharing your stats with us?

when you guys sent your email to the regional officer did you get a reply? if so was the reply from the regional officer or someone else at chicago and what did it say?

I got a canned response from my regional officer a few days later, just saying thanks for your continued interest, keep your options open, don’t get your hopes up (well, a little less harshly put than that,) etc.

What’s the last day possible to hear back for an acceptance?

would my daughter be able to keep a president’s scholarship if she took a gap year? what’s the procedure for requesting a gap year?

@marathe you are so lucky!! uchicago is my top choice and i’m sitting here impatiently waiting for my waitlist decision. i’m so anxious.

i’m also a bit worried about what this means for the rest of us. if they’ve already started accepting waitlisted students… could that mean that i won’t be taken off the waitlist??

@roguered I feel you. UChicago is also my top choice and just want to hear back if I’m in or not. Where else are you guys declaring by May 1st?

@felip5afan‌ unfortunately, i was denied for the schools i applied to, waitlisted for uchi… nowhere to commit. hoping i get off the waitlist because a gap year/community college aren’t suitable options for my situation

I’m declaring at UC Berkeley, how about you guys? I really want to go to Chicago, though :frowning: All I did was send an email to them… do you guys do anything else?
