UChicago/WashU/Michigan/UCLA

Hi,
I'm from Michigan and just wanted to see what you guys think about my chances to these colleges with these stats. Also, I am applying ED to WashU and the earliest possible dates to the other colleges.

GPA:3.7 (unweighted, not sure about weighted)
ACT:33 (7 on writing though)

I have/am taking 11 AP classes (though many are of this year)

Extracurric: Varsity tennis 4 years (3 hours a day), NHS with officer position, Officer in Stuco for a year, Definitely commended PSAT, maybe semifinalist, co-founder of a school club, 150+ hours of volunteering. There are others, but not worth noting.

UMichigan- Match
UChicago- Reach (Nail the essays and you could make it...)
WashU- Reach
UCLA (out of state)- Reach because OOS admissions are insane.

With a 3.7 those reaches are more like high reaches. I suggest that you consider some schools with slightly easier admissions. UMichigan, though, is probably your best option for prestige+great education. WashU might let you in ED, so I would definitely go for that. UChicago will be difficult, as will UCLA.
Good luck!
P.S.-- MSU should be your safety :)

Do you have suggestions of colleges with "slightly easier admissions"?

BTW, which colleges care about whether you apply for financial aid or not?

Hmm...
Consider UIowa, Indiana University, Boston University, and Northeastern off the top of my head.

As for finaid, you should apply if you need it. It won't have a huge affect on admissions...

I'm more optimistic about your chances. With all those APs, a 3.7 is a pretty good GPA. If you show a fit for UChicago and write great essays, you're a fine candidate there. I agree about UCLA, though.

greennblue please read my thread too (and my posts on the bottom too). i want to see if you have a different perspective. thx.
it just kinda seems like smart cookie is kinda pessimistic (or maybe its just that i'm way over optimistic)

More of realistic hedging on pessimistic, but that's open for debate. The big thing that greennblue is hinting at is "showing a fit for UChicago"
UChicago is unique in that it really looks beyond GPA and SAT in search of unique candidates that "fit".
A 3.7 though will still be on the low side for UChicago. The essays, however, will be the real deciding factor.
