My frehsman and sophomore years i recieved all A's with only ONE B.
However, once I reached my junior year I went through some troubles with my disorders and received straight C's first semester. and Mostly B's second semester. This semester (my first of senior year) is likely to be the same as last year's second. Probably mostly B's and one or two C's.

This scares me, because I really want to go to UChicago. I think my essays are really good and take unique approaches to prompts. Also, my teachers who wrote my recs address my low point and both say that I worked hard to get through it and both say that I'm doing great now. My activities are good. and my ACT score was 32. Also, I have a legal modification to my education plan, addressing the fact that my disorders are in fact real and recognized by my school (which im including in the additional info section). I also know somebody who went to UChicago and is on the board and can talk to some people there to explain my situation.

Despite all this I'm afraid that the GPA really will matter to them. It's a 3.7 weighted now but I'm afraid that it might go down a little this semester. I'm scared they won't think i can handle the work.

I want to show them that i am actually fairly intelligent. I'm afraid that they will only look at my grades, however. Do any of you have any input?

No idea, it’s out of a 5 scale though. Also my writing is really good when I’m not writing on forums :p. I’ve won 1st and second in a poetry competition, been published in various school contests for my writing, and I’m one of the Editor in Chief’s for my hs newspaper, also I’ve done a brief internship at a pulitzer winning newspaper.

Wait so the 3.7 is on a 5 scale? Based on the information given it is going to be a reach, your grades are rather low. They would forgive somewhat low grades, but yours are rather low. What are the disorders mentioned (if you have a valid reason for the grades they will be kinder to the low GPA)?

They are pretty low grades, I don’t think it’s all out of 5 though. Most of my classes are honors (4.5 scale) a few regular (4 scale) and a few AP (5 scale). I’m not sure how to calculate that to an unweighted GPA. The disorders are valid and legally recognized (so I think that will help), but I’d rather not post them online. I know it will be a reach. I’m just wondering if I have ANY chance of them recognizing me as a unique individual who is intelligent despite a low GPA

For unweighted (assuming all your classes were worth the same number of credits) you just add 4 points for each A, 3 for each B, 2 for each C, and 1 for each D, then you divide by the number of classes. For example if you took four classes in high school (obviously you will have taken more) and got three As and one B you would do 4+4+4+3=15 15/4 = 3.75, making that your unweighted GPA.

It is really hard to say, without knowing the situation, but depending on the disorders I think they will consider you. That being said your supplement essay needs to be beyond amazing.
