Hi guys,
I recently received a message from the admission counselor telling me that because of my Cs in Chem 1A and Bio I did not qualify for the UCI’s science majors. They asked if I would be interested in another non sci major. I realized I misread the requirement for Environmental Science, believing 3.0 overall not 3.0 for those two classes specifically. Anyways I decided on Social Ecology and I was wondering what are my chances of getting in since I received that message? I currently have a 3.08 GPA (this includes fall 2017 grades). Also how long until the admission counselor responds? Thanks everyone and good luck.
Fall 2016 grades**
Sorry, unless you have special circumstances (i.e., athlete, URM, etc.), with a cumulative 3.08 GPA (I think you mean Fall 2016 not Fall 2017 grades), I don’t think you will be admitted to any UC’s, including the low tier UC’s. You should have other alternatives such as the CSU’s.
I’m impressed that they contacted you and offered you an alternative major. They could have outright denied admission. I think it is promising that they contacted you.
@pleaseheelpp is a Transfer applicant. I am posting a link where you can look up the UC Transfer GPA by major and campus.

I do not see a GPA range for the Social Ecology major which most likely means few transfer applicants apply so I think you have a good chance especially since UCI contacted you directly.
Thanks everyone, UCI messaged back and approved my alternate major. Also @UCBUSCalum ;( thats one of my fears but I got a backup. My TAG for environmental science/biology combined was approved by UCSC, even with the low gpa
That worries me! I’m an out of state transfer still waiting on a decision!
I also applied for Environmental Science.
I have a 3.43 gpa, but I got a C in Biology!
Should I change my major in the portal?
Also, does ANYONE know when I’ll hear back? I feel like I’ve been waiting forever!
@madijean355 there is an official 2017 uci transfer thread somewhere in this forum, and it seems from what we’very been hearing that the decisions for should come out some time this week, most likely Friday for the majority of folks.
