UCI Acceptance Notification

There was another post under yours not but a few minutes ago i think they must have deleted their post

congrats bro!!

Just found out that our son was accepted to UCI, but I’m hoping he’ll get a Regents’ Scholarship like his brother did in 2008. Anyone get any kind of notification about that yet?

Our other son was one of the few who got a beautiful packet in the mail about March 15th in 2008 that he was accepted as a Regents’ Scholar and with CHP (Campuswide Honors Program) which he opted out of. His scholarship was $2,500 for the regular school year and $1,000 for summer session.

He met a few other Regents’ Scholars at the first SPOP (orientation) since that is the one that Regents’ Scholars ususally go to. All of them got the same exact monetary award that he did.

I’m worried that this year with all the budget problems, that they won’t offer the Regents’, or that they’ll cut way back on it or make the award so low that it’s pointless. With two sons at UCI and no financial aid, we’re really going to be depending on the scholarships!

The reason for the super early acceptance notification is that they made tons of room by expelling some students for yelling at some ambassador during a conference, or something like that…

I kid.

Congrats to those who’ve made it in!

the people who got in already have regent so if you didn’t hear from UCI regent your son might be out of luck need a near 4.0 for it this year for transfer

Koreo is my hero.

He has well above a 4.0 and is not a transfer. I must’ve put this post in the wrong location? Thanks for the info. though - I appreciate it!

quick question
my thing says Advance Standing (transfer), is that the same thing as entering as a junior and it will change when i (hopefully!) get accepted or what?

Your admission page will chance into something like

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs427.ash1/23645_1303028730507_1074146379_908903_5629913_n.jpg

except maybe minus regent

If I have a 4.0 and I haven’t received word yet, do I still have a chance at the Regent’s Scholarship?

Well, my son has a 4.33, is a varsity athlete, an AP Honors Scholar (excellent grades on his 4 AP exams so far) and he didn’t get the Regents’ Scholarship. We were pretty disappointed.

When I talked with the scholarship director, she said the Regents’ offers had already gone out about 10 days ago and that my son’s score of 1980 on the SAT is what hurt him. She said the average SAT score is a 1900 for incoming freshmen and I don’t buy that for a second.

You would’ve heard by now if you were a Regents’ Scholar. They send a nice big package in the mail and it would be on your ZOT log-in. The director also said that they have cut way back on the number of scholarships they gave this year due to budget cuts.

:( I was hoping it would have been different for transfer students… thank you for the response.

Oh! I forgot this is a transfer student thread! Sorry.

Still, she did say that “all of the Regents’ Scholarship offers were sent out already”.

I do think they are experiencing a budget cut. Would love to hear from anyone else that has received the offer so we get an idea as to how many they gave out this year. She wouldn’t give me the numbers and said it is never public information, yet they post the information online later in their board meeting notes.
