I’ve taken the UC Analytical writing exam placement (AWEP), and just now I checked on my admission portal under MyTests and it;s stated that I didn’t satisfy the entry level writing exam. I’m really bummed out because I thought I was a super decent writer, and every teacher had told me that, and I thought I wrote a really well-developed paper during exam day, but I guess the readers thought otherwise.
Can there be a mistake somehow? Out of all of my friends that took it, only one satisfied for some reason. What’s next? I heard you get another mail saying you have to take another test in July or something like that, or you’ll be put into suggested courses to satisfy this requirement in the fall quarter. (I didn’t take AP Lit so there goes that opportunity to satisfy it.) Does this placement test really matter besides being one quarter behind in English? Any anteaters out there that didn’t satisfy this give some insight on how it’s like when you started the fall quarter?
I’m just hoping there is a mistake somehow, because I know I didn’t score a 3 or lower (based on their definition of unsatisfactory essays).
From the UCI Test center:
Entry Level Writing Requirement not satisfied:
• Entry Level Writing course required — placement into Writing 37, 39A, 39AP with LAB, or Humanities 1A (S/A)
• Academic English Test required. Depending on the results of this test, Academic English (AE) courses may be required before the student is eligible to enroll in any entry level writing course.
Who needs to take the Academic English Placement Test?
You may be required to take the AE test if:
Your performance on the UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam indicates that AE course work would be beneficial.
UCI should be sending you correspondence if you need to take the Academic English Placement test or if you will be placed into one of the writing courses listed above.
@gumbymom What’s the difference between analytical writing exam and the academic english placement test?
The English placement test is for individuals that did not pass the APWE and still require additional English courses so they are able to pass the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement or for International students that need additional help in their English courses.
Most likely, you will just be placed in one of the Entry level writing courses posted above ^^^. You should be finding out your next step within the next few weeks.
