Hey guys, I was just wondering how really appeals work? I know that you must state that you have an error in your application, but can you show your 1st semester senior grades as an error? How do you start an appeal? thanks!

I think you’re trying to say that if you submit your 1st semester grades of senior year, would it be new information that would warrent an appeal? No, not really. New information would be more along the lines of a significantly improved SAT score from 1600 going up to a 2000. Or perhaps 15+ units of college credit with a 3.0+ GPA completed at a local JuCo that was not reported in your UC app.
You must also understand that as a freshman applicant it would be much harder to reverse your admission decision because the UCs are using the waitlist system which would most likely place several equally competative freshman ahead of you. Also, the down side of the appeals process is that lets assume you win your appeal and gain admission to UCI, fantastic! but now its past the may 1st SIR deadline and your are not guranteed frosh housing and are stuck looking for a place to live in Irvine. You would also most likely be last in line when it comes to picking classes as your SPOP(orientation)weekend would be one of the last ones, some time in August, thereby placing you at the end of the line when it comes to picking classes for your year for the next 5 years b/c you wont be able to get the classes you need to ‘finish in four’. If you have gotten this far and are still considering appealing best of luck to you.

Senior year grades don’t generally count as grounds for appeal unfortunately, since they don’t see that for anyone they don’t want to take it as a reason for an appeal. That’s how it is at ucsd, but uci might be different. Whatever the case good luck!

You have to present them “new and compelling evidence”. Something they didn’t see in your application that or some mistaken scores that could have affected their decision. Many people would show their first semester senior grades to show how they have “improved” but, since it’s such a common excuse I don’t think the admission will look at it seriously or care that much…
I am also planning to appeal to UCI and have a bunch of possible pieces of “evidence” that may/may not work. Would this work?

I sent in two of my ACT scores on the same day before the marked deadline but only 1 of the scores (the lower of the two) was shown on my tests section of my portal. The second score (the higher one) never seemed to be received; it was never shown on my portal. I took this test in December so I wasn’t able to put it on my application but sent in my score the same time as my other test which I took in October (that one I put on my application).
The thing that might work against me is that I did email my college counselor on my portal about it and they said they did received the second score but it still wasn’t shown on my portal. UCD did show the score (I sent my scores through UCI to be sent to the other UC’s) so it did go through UCI…

Appealing to UCI was totally worth it! I was accepted today :)))
