@TSchaser Oh wow congrats on getting into Davis! What was your reason for appeal and what major did you apply/stats?

Nah lol, i got rejected. If your lurking the Davis forums, i didn’t really send the full requirements of what they are looking for. Focused my effort into Irvine, considering its the only school I’d consider over the one i sent my deposit to.

@TSchaser oh sorry about that, good luck on Irvine! I’m really counting on UCI too but I’ll be happy with my current selection as well.

Do any of you guys actually include new and compelling information? I’m beginning to feel the reason so few people are accepted is because you’re all just restating the essay you made when first applying.

I actually had new and compelling information but it wasn’t mind blowing it was just something new and somewhat compelling. I’m just really anxious to hear back from UCI

Here’s the way I see it.

Appeals can either go the 5% way where most people don’t have a good story, some do, and amongst the some maybe a few get their appeal accepted due to open slots.

OR

Its a hail mary tactic when a school is severely under-enrolled. See UCI 2012 Waitlist/appeals. Almost everyone who sent one got in. Last year, nobody got accepted but they had a 41% acceptance rate compared to 36% in 2012. Now? 35% acceptance rate this year, and waitlists are quickly getting off the list.

I’d bet decent money that UCI has a 2012 situation where they will need to accept whoever they can in order to fill the slots. This means taking anyone who bothered to send an appeal given that the grades are okay and they sent all the documents.

My story wasn’t amazing, but i decided to put in a hardship sobstory that i wanted to avoid telling on the UC app. Told it on the commonapp, waitlisted/accepted to the 9 schools i sent it too. My senior grades weren’t good nor was my courseload, so thats why i was waitlisted. seems like schools wanna hear that stuff so let em have it.

Appeals are still a longshot because of the 5% method. Most schools simply do not have open slots, they are almost always enrolled to the max or overflowing.

Shouldn’t we be looking at the admit #s rather than the admit %?

True true. Although from what i’ve seen, the amt of people appealing is roughly the same each year (for uci atleast) 1kish. Its probably higher for other UCs because of online apps, whereas UCI only accepts snailmail lol.

To my appeals friends, I have a pretty big change in grades that I would like to report. Should I send a priority mail to UCI? My status on appeal still shows as pending so maybe it will reach and be added to my initial appeal.

@TSchaser according to UCI’s appeal information: "PLEASE NOTE: It is very imporant all materials sent for review are sent at one time in one package. Due to the amount of paperwork received by the office and also the ongoing appeal review process, any paperwork submitted separately WILL NOT be merged with the original appeal for review. " So by the looks of it, you can’t show them those new improved grades. D:. You could try, but I got a feeling that they won’t merge your new documents with your appeal that you sent.

ah right ty. i recall reading something like that but i wasnt sure.

do you think sending them an email reaffirming that UCI is a top choice will help? i visited and everything, wanted to go to the admissions office to talk to them in person but they were closed

Has anybody had UCI message you for a recommendation letter? I was wondering because it says on their website that they’re not required unless they ask

I haven’t gotten a message BTW, just asking.

nope although i sent a rec letter anyways. need it to compensate for my rough start to 2nd semester

Man I should have sent one. I was afraid to send one because of what they said about it but I guess I should have sent one.

don’t feel bad, i thought i shouldn’t send one as well. a friend currently in UCI who got in from appeals pointed me in the right direction

Did your friend send a letter of rec?

The wait is killing. when does it come out? 3.9 weighted, 1710 sat, 1000 community service. what do you guys think my chances are? thanks and good luck to all. hope they are really under enrolled.

Mid may is when they say they’re supposed to come out. You have a pretty good chance if they’re underenrolled
