***UCI APPLICANTS C/O 2023***

@Gumbymom
I see, thank you for the information. I just received the CHP email that says that. I find it interesting, since I have the lowest SAT and an imperfect GPA, among those who said they got in in this thread.

@peachgirl: It is just not about academic stats, but your overall application along with your major. Congratulations and CHP is a great opportunity.

@ThatKidsMom: Each UC campus has their own criteria for determining Regents/Chancellor scholarships so an applicant could get these scholarships at several UC campuses or one or none. No way to predict…

Sending good vibes and luck to everyone!!

Guys I actually can’t express how excited I am. UCI is so close to me so I could still see my family if I go, and their computer science program is very high level. Plus, I visited the campus and it was gorgeous. Now that I’m in honors, I really want to go and it’s definitely one of my top choices. I’m so thankful for this opportunity because I was scared for the rest of my decisions but now I’m not worried anymore because I have a solid choice right here!

Congrats!! My son is CS and and CHP as well! Im excited for you and both. Its an excellent opportunity for you guys to meet other super motivated students like yourself. Also for my son who can be socially awkward it will make it easier to meet kids and make friends being in a smaller social group. Yay!

Is anyone here planning on attending the Honors Experience Day for UCI? They just sent out the email but the link isn’t working yet. If anyone is attending, feel free to message me, because I would love to know people there before attending. I am definitely going, it’s on March 8th

Hey guys, does anyone know the difficulty of switching majors at this point? I was accepted into BIM yesterday (school of CS) but I think I might want to switch into Civil Engineering :confused: I’m especially hesitant because a previous post said “Students are selected by faculty in the UCI School of the student’s major.” Since I’m changing schools, how complicated would this be? Thanks in advance!

@eggstremelyeggy: You need to contact admissions, but in the past you would have to attend UCI for 1 quarter before attempting to change majors. Would you have all the required pre-req courses for Civil Engineering completed to be eligible for the transfer?

@Gumbymom If you didn’t get an email from UCI on Friday, does that mean you didn’t make CHP and have to wait until March for regular decision? Do they send out all CHP decisions for all majors on the same day?

My daughter is waiting to hear about her application for an English Major…

@scratchy903 You don’t need to wait for an e-mail. Have her log onto her portal. It will say Congratulations and will indicate CHP if she got it.

@scratchy903: There may be some more emails for CHP still coming, but the majority have already posted. In the past, all UCI decisions were more on a rolling basis, not like some campuses such such UC Davis which posts all acceptance/denials/waitlist/Regents all on the same day.

@Gumbymom Thanks… We logged into her portal yesterday and there wasn’t anything (some of her friends got notifications which is why we looked).
I’m a little surprised, she’s top 9% ELC, 4.4 GPA, AP’s 5,5,5,4 (and 6 more to come in senior year) 1460 SAT 32 ACT (with a 35 in English) - her chosen major. President of clubs, volunteering etc, all the usual requirements and I know I’m her Mum, but boy, were her response questions good (imho!). I thought she was a pretty competitive applicant.

We’ll have to wait and see if anymore come out.
Thanks again,

@scratchy903:

  1. ELC means little in terms of admission since the majority of UC applicants for the top 6 UC’s will be ELC eligible.
  2. CHP admits are determined by each major department so each will have different criteria in selecting the recipients

Your daughter looks very competitive for UCI so although she may not get into CHP as a Freshman admit, there is always the opportunity to apply as a current UCI student.

Best of luck to her.

I think someone already mentioned this but is everyone else’s link to the Honors Experience Day not working? I try to click on it in the email and nothing happens haha. Or is there another link to get to the sign up page that I’m not finding?

@reinawrites Try this. https://apply.admissions.uci.edu/register/honorsexperienceday19

@peachgirl you’re the best!! thank you <3

D accepted yesterday with CHP into psychology. 3.85UW/4.25W and 33 ACT. Lots of ECs, leadership, sports, and has worked a part time job for 2 years. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear.

@peachgirI Congrats on your acceptance to UCI and the CHP program! I completely agree with @Gumbymom saying “It is just not about academic stats, but your overall application along with your major.”

UCI is my alma mater, and now my daughter has also been accepted. I always told her that it’s the overall package that will get you into these schools - not just numbers. I was on the admissions committee when I was in grad school; I’ve read countless applications and I think I’ve seen it all.

Again, congratulations - you’ve earned it!!!

@Gumbymom how do you find the list of prereqs for civil engineering? sorry for being clueless D:

Also curious, is CHP optional even if you were admitted? I read a couple of reddit posts where CS majors said the special course track wasn’t really worth it for their major because of the limited flexibility and heavier course load on top of their classes for CS. Also, I’ve read that the CHP track fulfills a lot of GEs but wasn’t very useful for those who had a lot of AP credits and community college courses coming in (which also helped with priority enrollment). Any thoughts?
