UCI Business Economic, minor Accounting v.s. UCSB Pre-Economic and Accounting

Hi, guys. So I get accepted by UCSB Pre-Economic and Accounting and UCI Pharm Science (but I plan to transfer to BE minor accounting if I decide to go to UCI), and need advice about which one I should pick. I personally like UCI because it seems like more convenience to live in than Santa Barbara(I like to live in city and I love Asian foods!!) Besides that, I don’t know what are the differences between these schools and these programs. I plan to be an accountant and might be a CPA. I wonder where should be a better choice for my future (to sit in CPA, to get a job)

  1. How hard to transfer to BA emphasize in accounting or BE minor in accounting? Is accounting minor hard to get in? What are the requirements for entering accounting minor?
  2. How hard is the econ&accounting major in UCSB? I heard that the Econ classes in UCSB is huge and only 6% of people get A. So it means it is competitive and hard to get high GPA? How are the classes in UCI?
  3. Do both programs prepare students sit in CPA exam? (offer enough classes etc.)
  4. Which school provide more chances for students to get a job in companies like Big4? Do recruiters like one of them more than another one? Or just equal opportunities.
Can anyone who knows those information answer my questions and give me some suggestion?

Thank you very much!!

Big 4 heavily recruit at both schools. I suggest you contact the Accounting Association and BAP at both schools and ask questions.

Thank you for your answer! @uciparent

I’m having trouble deciding as well… so I got into UCI’s Business Administration program( the school sent me an email says that this year the UCI Merage School of Business had over 11,000 applicants for only 280 seats),
and UCSB’s Pre Econnomics&Accounting (got in as a top applicant, was invited to the Chancellor reception.)
Also got into Fordham LC (Global Finance and Business Economics),Penn State main(Finance), PITT (Finance), and UMass-Amherst (finance w $12k a year) Any advice? Thank you so much!

@yqyq19 Between uci and ucsb you should definitely go with UCI biz administration since it is more competetive and you are gauranteed into it unlike UCSB econ and accounting which get you into the pre major. Easy decision right there between those two.
