UCI, Chapman, or Pepperdine??

i'm having a crisis in regards to the upcoming college selection period!

i'm applying fresh out of high school for undergrad studies and am having a lot of difficulty deciding which college is right for me (as are so many of my peers). i know i should not be consdering college rank so much but i hesitate to attend chapman or pepperdine because im not sure how they compare to uci (teir 1). any advice as to which college would get me the best jump-start into the work force? which would be looked on most highly by prospective employers? which one is best all around? opinions/facts anything welcome!

i only have a few more weeks until i have to make my final decision! help!! thanks so much!!

Pepperdine and Chapman are not in the same class as UC Irvine. Chapman should not even be in the conversation. Go to Irvine!

my question to you would be what do you want to major in? b/c if its the sciences, i would definitely say UCI, film/arts- chapman.

also, what do you want out of your college experience? b/c each school is very different.
UCI- larger public uni, Chapman- smaller, liberal arts college, Pepperdine- also small, yet religious college.

i applied to both UCI and Chapman, so I understand why both appeal to you.

One needs to remember that there are NO guarantees by attending X College.
I am a firm believer of attending the best school for the least amount of money specifically for the above reason.

If UCI is the cheapest go there, if pepperdine is go there, if chapman is then go there.

Pepperdine more name recognition nationally. Something to consider if you plan on looking for work outside the region.

I don’t think Pepperdine has more name recognition nationally. Pepperdine might have a strong alumni network, I could see that. But I would go with UCI, it’s provides the broadest set of opportunities with the fewest limitations.

Pepperdine is pretty selective, notwithstanding the religious founding and currently dry campus. Last I checked they took under 30% of the applicants.

…OK I checked… for 2006 admits, they took 28%. I assume 2009 will be 26% or so.

2006 admits 25/75 SATs:
Pepperdine 1290
UCI 1210

Why do people seem to think Pepperdine is less acadmically strong? It is way more selective, with much higher SAT scoring students. I don’t get why Pepperdine gets so little respect on this thread… Just because you’re overlooking the ocean in Malibu does not mean the school is full of dummies.

UCI…trust me. All your doors will remain open and you will not be stereotyped as a rich kid who went to a private institution, but rather a large, competitive university.

Clout90265 –

Why should OP trust you? Really… how old are you, what are your qualifications to advise college applicants, and what is your personal experience in attending any of these schools? How many people do you know well who attended each of these schools?

Honestly, it gets tiring reading the posts of 17 yr. olds who think they know things well enough to say “trust me”. Trust is earned my friend, from a combination of competence and good intentions.

Im from the tri-state area and in the NYC job market, which is pretty big with some heavy duty corporate headquarters, philanthropic organizations, fashion and media centers etc. Pepperdine is definitely more well known and has a reputation. I do not believe UCI shares that notariety. Noone from my HS has ever applied to UCI (Berk and UCLA yes).
Atleast not in my neck of the woods - more like a giant forest. Also, being rich is not a bad thing.; most people given a choice would prefer to be rich. All things being equal ($$, ranking) private is better than public.

Go to Pepperdine. Cooler school and much more well known, at least up here in Minnesota. Never heard of UCI before this forum, or Chapman ever until this thread, but everyone at my school knows of Pepperdine.

dude go where ever its the cheapest … in this market $ speaks

and also its only undergrad so I don’t THINK its that important.

thanks everyone so much for your comments its really been helpful
