[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):[/ul]
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT, Essay, Community Service/volunteering
[] Weaknesses: Maybe GPA? (but for UCI, I thought it was above average).
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I HAVE NO CLUE.[/ul]
[/li]

General Comments: I don’t want to be that brat on the forum, that makes a big deal out of getting screwed over by a college. But to be honest, I really felt like I DID get screwed over. IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE.

I don’t know; I’m definitely beginning to feel worthless. A lot of my safety schools have either waitlisted or outright rejected me, while I’ve seen people with much lower stats waltz right into the acceptance pool. (not trying to say they don’t deserve it)
I’m beginning to feel like these rejections are a great precursor for the rest of my admissions experience. If i couldn’t get into UCI, how the hell am I going to get into any other better colleges I applied to? (catastrophic thinking I know, just feeling a little irrational at the moment).
I began justifying these rejections with the usual “Tufts Syndrome,” but am now starting to seriously think that I must be lacking something. I’m just simply depressed and demoralized.

PS. was it just me who found the rejections letter a little rude? I tried not to throw a tantrum, as I checked it at a party confidently awaiting good news, only to read it say, “We regret to inform you that…”

I completely agree with you, meltingclocks. Uci was supposed to be my safety as well, but I got wait listed there and rejected from my target (ucsd) and reach (ucla). The only school I DID get into was UCSB, which hasn’t seemed to follow the nonsensical decisions the other UCs have been doing. Why is it so hard this year…?

Wow. Meltingclocks, you are extremely qualified and have my heartfelt sympathies. It sounds like your rejection is UCI’s loss. Same for many of you posting here.
This makes no sense at all. Your stats mirror my son’s almost exactly. He was rejected from UCI, also: 2300 single sitting/4.2W/4.1UC + Eagle Scout. It was his safety, true. But since when do UCs strafe the top layer of their applicant pool?

Picordy: I agree. UCSB decisions seemed to make sense this year. But something’s gone wrong at UCI.

Next year’s kids will need to entirely rethink strategies for the CA publics, as the rules seem to have changed this year.

Of all the UCs so far, Irvine’s decisions are the most baffling. I don’t understand all these rejections and am wondering how this batch of incoming freshmen as a whole will reflect that. I’m not even gonna try to offer encouragement because by looking through this thread, I’d be p(i)ssed if I were you guys. Not sure why UCI is so selective this year but its discouraging to see them turning down such hard working, highly accomplished applicants.

Sent from my HTC Evo 3D using CC

@melting. Your rejection by uci is ridiculous! Your stats are impressive! There is just no understanding the decisionmaking by uci. Next year kids will feel even more compelled to apply to a million schools because of cases like yours.

Decision: Rejected

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, Scores (sure not the top, but for Studio Art… they’re good. I checked the averages on UCI’s website)
[] Weaknesses: Scores (Overall… compared to people who want to do science stuff), Rank
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really don’t know… I got into UCSD though. So I’m not too disappointed by the rejection… more stunned than anything else.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Congrats to those who made it!

@vhatisthis,

oh shut up. “he’s black, thats the only reason he got in”.

go ahead and say it, you don’t have to masquerade it by saying indirect hazy comments like, “i think race plays a huge factor”

and if you believe such is true, your comment alone will disprove all these “affirmative action isn’t considered in the UC application” thread speculations.

I honestly don’t know why I got rejected from UCI. When other people started getting their acceptance emails, I thought that I would certainly get in too since my stats were, in my opinion, better than theirs. I am devastated that I didnt get it.

Should I write a letter of appeal? If so, what should I put??

@MeltingClocks101, I have been rejected as well and I thought i would get in. I know how you feel. People who had no extra curricular activities are now rejoicing at their acceptance and I’m here wallowing in my tears. this sucks so badly. I just want to know why i didn’t get in.

@cocoamix
What are your stats and what are your backup schools so far???

are the admissions random or?..

Thanks guys! I’m starting to feel a little better after this entire UC debacle (even after getting rejected from UCLA… ouch).

I never thought that the UCs had such a random decisions process, as I’ve seen more than qualified applicants receive rejections… and to be frank, students, who I would never have thought to get in, receive acceptances. I’m not an admissions officer, as I’m sure some of these decisions are justified, but seriously am thinking that UCadmissions are a crackpot.

With over 70,000 applicants, who can expect them to be making rational decisions on each application they come across? I NOW know I can’t.

I guess I’ll wait out the rest of this week to see how my luck goes in the last stretch of this admission’s process. Wish me luck! :)

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My academics are ok, but my ECs are weak.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: I got into UCD and UCSB, so my results are better than I expected. Though I would choose UCI over those schools.

this is making me nervous…I applied as a freshman (im pretty sure I did) and on the website it says im a transfer…and now I have to wait until april to know!? + i’m an international student and I didn’t do the TOEFL :s do you think they can reject me justbecause of the toefl ? anyway congrats to everyone who got in!
