***UCI Class of 2021 Applicants***

me

@kim20065 me

So chp was based on your major?

Really regretting picking biomedical engineering as my major.

Is biomedical engineer at least respected in UCI? I mean, is it any good? I feel like I just screwed myself over…

@JuicyMango They distribute the Honors invitation by major for incoming freshmen so that all the departments will have a certain number. However, if you go there and finish your first quarter of at least 12 units with a 3.5 or better you can apply to be in CHP. I think at the UCs the priority registration with Honors doesn’t start until 2nd quarter anyway.

@BunnyBlue In UCI, do you automatically get in if you have above a 3.5 gpa, or do you have to do something else? I can’t imagine what else they would ask, its not like they care about your SAT score anymore and stuff, right?

Someone I know who got into MIT and Berkeley EECS already got Irvine CHP, but not Regents. Does UCI only offer regents to students who’ll end up deciding between UCI/other school with no scholarship? (like UCI regents/UCLA none) since it wouldn’t make sense for regents to be given to an overqualified student who won’t consider Irvine in the end.

Like I was accepted with Regents to UCI, but could this be a bad sign for Ivies/top tier schools?

@actuallysad I am sure it’s not a bad sign AT ALL. Congrats on getting Regents! I am wondering, though, how the selection criteria differ between CHP and Regents. I got CHP but not Regents, and I would like to know why.

@JuicyMango Oh my goodness, they really demand a lot to get in CHP and stay in! I didn’t realize it is so involved. Acceptance is not automatic and is competitive. For the application, you have to answer some short essay questions and include your plan for taking certain required honors courses. The qualifications they are looking for include your special skills, talents, and interests; honors, awards, scholarships or special recognition; and community service and leadership.

Can a person who gets UCI regents still get admitted by UCB in March? Has that happened in the past?

@eric2017abc there’s no reason why it wouldn’t. Admissions between UC’s don’t have any real connections to eachother.

anyone knows when will the next wave come?

@normanf Early March!

@actuallysad Actually my daughter got Regents from both UCLA and UCI (but that was 2 years ago). So UCI had no problem giving it to those who got that also from other UCs.

@uclaparent9 Do you know anyone who got Regents from UCI in Feb but also got admitted by UCB in March?

For UCI Admissions decisions, has there only been 1 wave so far? (I think we saw people post their admits around Feb. 15th if I remember correctly?)

Today at 8:49 pm: anyone knows when will the next wave come?

@BunnyBlue Thank you for that helpful info!

That’s really unfortunate, makes me want to not go to UCI even more. Well, there’s a lot of other great schools out there…

@eric2017abc Yes, a few years ago my older son was offered UCI Regents in February and then was accepted to Berkeley in March.

Thanks so much @BunnyBlue !!. Has been so worried after getting UCI Regents because the dream school is UCB.

I got an UCB regents invite in Feburary, but I didn’t get regents from Irvine… :wink: so anything’s possible!!

@eric2017abc Last year my son’s friend got UCI regents and accepted to UCB. He ended up at UCLA. My S got Davis Regents and admitted to UCB and UCLA. Also attending UCLA.
