Can someone chance me? I got waitlisted by UCSD so now i just really wanna make sure I have a good chance of getting into Irvine. (assuming UCLA rejects me lol)
UC capped gpa: 4.23 (it would be 4.27 but i received an unfair grade which i explained)
SAT: 1410 (math 740, reading and writing 670)
Major: Drama
EC’s: very very good. I have a TON of experience in theatre within my school and community plus student council, etc

I’ve also done a two day camp with the instructors in charge of UCI’s drama program if that helps
@potus2044 decisions were supposed to be rolling throughout march, so maybe!! but who knows?
thursday isn’t too far away though so if it DOES come out on the 16th, i’ll still be happy!
This is just a general question for all UCs. Apparently my math section of the ACT is not considered passing, passing is 22 and I scored 21 (math has never been my strong suit) I have gotten into a couple cal states, rejected at UCD. I was wondering if UCs will accept me because it’s not passing, I have above average stats but they aren’t super duper high and my essays were excellent. I’m wondering if the 21 math score is what’s dragging me down. So basically my question is, has anyone been accepted with an non-passing ELM score?
@Emsibz: I know of 2 students in within the last 2 years that had low ACT/SAT Math scores. They were accepted to a UC, but were required to take the Math placement test at both (UCI and UCR) where they did not score well and also take a remedial math course for no credit before being allowed to register for any higher level Math courses.
No, I applied for psychobiology at UCLA. I did do two three week long theatre camps at UCLA though, which could’ve counted for college credit if I wanted to write a ton of essays. I did list them on my app so at least they know that i’ve visited the campus. But UCI’s theatre program is actually better than UCLA’s (weirdly enough) and I love the maths and sciences so I didn’t apply to drama at UCLA. There was no audition for UCI’s theatre program.
@kryz1999 sometimes UCs will reject overqualified applicants, which sucks. My friend got rejected from SD but then got into a boston premed program which only takes 90 kids a year. Admissions are weird
@dancingsloth Yeah, that’s called Tufts syndrome. It’s supposedly practiced because the universities want to keep their acceptance rates as low as possible and they believe that the rejected student will go to a higher-ranking university anyways. I heard that it’s especially done at UC Davis.
I hope that colleges eventually stop doing it, though. It would definitely be harmful if safeties too start this practice.
@YuukaAono I heard that too! There were rumors going around my school but I couldn’t pinpoint the source and thought they were coming on Thursday but is it possible for tomorrow? Do you have a viable source?
