Hello, all. First post.

I'd be really grateful if you could answer my questions. Recently, I was accepted into both UC Irvine for Computer Engineering and UCSD for Electrical Engineering (I was wait-listed at Davis). Computer Engineering was my first option at both schools, but because the major was impacted at UCSD, I was admitted to my alternate major instead.

I was initially excited about heading to UCSD, which is quite prestigious and whose programs I've heard wonderful things about (plus I hear there's a nude beach), but I'm not sure if electrical engineering's job outlook is the best right now. I'm not even sure if there's much of a difference between computer engineering and electrical engineering, and I don't actually know much about what electrical engineers do. I have a very strong background in Physics and Chemistry, and my goal is to have a reasonable guarantee of employment after college working for a software or hardware company on the West Coast.

So, my questions are- What is the difference between the curricula of electrical and computer engineering? Is there a significant difference in job outlook between electrical and computer engineering? If so, is there a large enough difference between UCSD and UC Irvine that going to UCSD will offer more advantages? If I major in EE, can I switch into CE easily? Do I even want to do that if the major is impacted? Would minoring in computer science be a realistic or intelligent option? Is achieving a high GPA easier at Irvine? What should I do?

I'd appreciate any answers, and look forward to becoming part of the college confidential community. I've been a reader for years. Thank you.
