UCI Computer Science Transfer

Currently a community college student hoping to transfer to UCI for Computer Science.
I checked assist and it shows that there are no chemistry or physics classes required for transfer. Was wondering if they want you to take those classes there or they don’t require them at all.

Under my ASSIST page it says “Two courses approved for General Education Category II except those related to
computing/engineering, economics, or mathematics.”, so it just isn’t limited to chemistry or physics, but you still have to take two science courses.

@nirvanemesis I see that as well. Does that mean I am allowed to take the basic science courses? Or do you know if I have to take the more rigorous general chemistry, physics for science majors or bio for science majors.

Since UCI’s Computer Science program is unique (I’m assuming that since they have more different prereqs than other UCs) I’d guess that they don’t really care if you don’t take “rigorous” science classes. You could, for example, (and the ICS counselor at UCI confirmed this with me) take Astronomy or Geology.

why not call or email UCI and ask?

You won’t need to take any physic or chemistry class if you aiming to UCI for CS.
I got accepted to UCI for Fall 2016, and the two science classes that I took at CC was Marine science (Biological science + lab) and Astronomy (physical science).
However, this’s also the disadvantage if you apply to any other UCs since they require a lot physic and chem classes.

@jngkl15 Yea i figured that came with the territory. But as I’m checking on their website it says that they only require one year of Calculus and one year of Comp Sci classes. Also, the General Education for Irvine says, “Four UC transferable courses chosen from at least two of the following areas: the arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, or the physical and biological sciences” And i already have four classes done from the arts and humanities and social and behavioral sciences. So Im questioning if i should take the science classes or finish calc 2 and my second semester of comp sci and apply for the winter/spring term.
By the way, congrats on your acceptance.

@thebigdawgg : I would go for Cal 2 since it is the requirement for Computer Science
