UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

GPA : 3.67
TAG : yes
Major : cs
Status : pending

I took two English classes, I took calc 2, I will finish 60 units by the end of this spring semester. I took the major pre-reqs for CS. (finishing C++2 in my cc rn this spring semester). Yeah I don’t get it. I also finished IGETC.

LOL silly UCI, sending me an email about Celebrate UCI on 4/20, THIS morning.

Who got accepted into Berkeley here, but still waiting for UCI??? ?

@jedenic - LMAO wow the audacity hahaha.

@rsandan You probably got in since ppl last year still got accepted up to the 25th/26th but there could be reason that you might not. Did you finish your first eng class and math class before the end of this past summer? Also, how close are you to 60 semester units by the end of spring semester? Sometimes uci might count some classes less or you might have accidentally repeated a course because of AP credits? Did you get at least a B in all your major prerequisite? Also, is your prerequisite only 2 CS classes? For my school, I had to take 3 CS classes (Cpp). Did you check to see if your tag application major and general application major match? I also read that a person got their tag voided because they listed two different emails on their tag and general application.

Just my 2 cents. According to assist.org UCI requires linear algebra but will accept linear algebra with diff equation but in order to take Linear Algebra with Diff Eq you need Calc 3 so to be safe I took Calc 1,2,3 and LA w/DE. This route also fulfills UC with CS that are only in the school of engineering. (i.e. UCLA).

I think I got accepted on 19th after the Honor for Business Admin because I finish 2 Calculus in Fall 2018, English 1A, 1C by Jan 2019, all pre-reqs in Fall 2018.

In Spring 2019, I only have to finish BUS082 which they allow to finish in UCI and 1 History which can do in UCI too. Thats why my provisional admission claimed that No specific courses was determined. I only have to make sure that I have 60 UC transferable courses which I was confused since I know many courses I took were for CSU to get local degrees. But their Admission staffs told me to check assist.org and I found the list of UC transferable courses in my 2 sister colleges. So I actually have almost 80 UC transferable courses.

Maybe thats why I got their decision last week since I almost done everything before Spring 2019.

By the way, my GPA is 4.0.

I am not anxious to wait for UCI anymore. Since it was my fourth choice, and I am already admitted to UCB. Now, what I am nervous for is only UCLA. Haha… but still if UCI admits me, it will be a pleasure.

Congratulations on your multiple acceptances. My only comment is that if you have no intention of going to UCI and if admitted perhaps you can decline it ASAP so others can get off the wait list?

@JustTakeMe Differential is just an additional approved course. The math requirements for cs is just Calc 1 and 2

@Bibihcmvn I think as long as we finish the pre-req course by the end of Spring term, we can get admitted to UCI. I am taking Writing 2, Calculus and Managerial Acct this semester. I got admitted on 19th. Btw, I think UCI is very lenient.
I think one of the reason they accept me because I met their representative twice when they come to my school for transfer fair.
P/s: I think we both come from VN and nice to meet you

@nanavn I would have been in US for 3 years this end of July. And yes, I am from HCMC, Vietnam. So nobody told me about UC or CSU. Maybe because I am 35 and have family, I registered CCC by myself even though people told me to go to Adult Center instead. In CCC, the counselor even looked me down and laughed so loud when I asked to study 10 units in summer. (Back in spring they only allowed me to take 9 units). That counselor even brought my request to another counselors hoping they can persuade me on taking too much courses. Thats why I made my own education plan. And I only know UC during summer 2018.

However, I am happy that I eventually got in UCI as I loved this city for long. I actually accepted their offer before knowing UCB result and of course, UCLA too. Because I want to learn Marketing which the program from UCI are more beneficial for my own purpose. How about you? Will you go to UCI too?

If yes, very nice to have fellow countrymen this Fall in UCI.

@Bibihcmvn: Hi chi, I got accepted to Haas school but I don’t think I will go there, and my parents say i am crazy. UCI and UCLA are my top choice since I have been living in Irvine for two years. I am still waiting for UCLA to make my decision.
If you plan to move to Irvine for new school, feel free to message me if you need any help about house, location or school for your children.

@nanavn Before coming to US, actually before my husband got severe mental problem, my life could be a dream to many people that I only worked few hours a week and travel abroad almost 8 months a year with my daughter. But I never had any degree even an English certificate. I started as a Personal Assistant to Chief Representative for a global company, and later headhunt kept offer me better job in bigger companies.

I tell you that to encourage you that we do not need any title or name in education to lift us up. Instead, we can fly if we really love the sky and strongly believe that we could. To be able to do that, I think we first have to love what we do. So if you think something is your first priority, follow your instinct.

I was born in a homeless family in VN. My parents wanted me to be a doctor since I was very young. But I chose my own way to go (although Pharmacy School accepted my application in 2002), and I was the most successful in my siblings. All of them, even cousins, only worked for regular wage. I even helped my Mom to build our house over there, travel overseas a lot and took my Mom to some Asian countries too. That’s why I do not care much about school name, of course within some ranges, for example I will avoid the party school. I want to enjoy life since I only can fly if I have very little pressure.

Overall, I just share my story to support you that Just do what you love to do. Only you know what you need to make you happy. And happiness is the meaning of life.

I chose Irvine because I want to spend more time with my family, especially with my 11-year-old daughter. I do not want Berkely (so I was fine when they rejected me) because of its vibe and terrible area. I do not prefer UCLA only because I never want to work in Finance and Acctg even though UCLA campus really attracted me much more than UCI. After all, UCI knocked me out because I am an old person who would love to enjoy the student life which I never had before. If studying in high ranking top universities, I mght be a nerdy mom.

I applied housing in UCI, and we also have voucher HudVash for housing as my husband is a veteran. I prefer to stay in campus but I must find out if they accept housing voucher. If not, I will contact you to find an apartment in Irvine close to campus.

Thanks a lot.

@GoodAfternoonSir lmao I don’t know! I’m guessing perhaps they might send you an acceptance this week.

Who knows why they would delay further acceptances though… Perhaps they wait for a few people to decline their offer in favor of UCB and UCLA…before they send out those few more acceptances.

Anyone else not get their admissions yet and getting antsy? I applied for nursing and ended up getting into my alternate majors for Sonoma and East Bay which I’m entertaining the idea of. I like the idea of the sciences anyways.

I don’t know about anyone else but I feel like I’m in the hot seat and the seats only getting hotter and hotter and if I should just bite the bullet and submit my deposit and make some preparations with CSU’s in case UC’s don’t work out.Makes it kind of tricky since these admissions come out late and CSU deadlines are May 1.

@LagunaStudent12 I finished the required two English classes by the end of my first Spring Semester (2018). I finished Calc 2 in the summer (Summer 2018). By the end of this current spring semester I will have 60 semester units. I didn’t repeat any course (I used my AP stats, psych, calc ab scores). I got at least a B in all my prereqs. For my school we had to take C++ 1 and C++ 2. (but before we take C++ we had to take Java) And yes my majors match in my tag app and general app. I checked rn and I have the same email under both of them. Hopefully I get the best news on the 25th/26th. *fingers crossed

@rsandan Did you check if UCI accepts your AP score calc ab?

I really just wish that UCI would release the Financial Aid information. It’s a big part of my decision making and I need to begin planning regarding school ASAP! Any chance they might release early?

Am I the only one who hasn’t heard anything yet?
