UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Im assuming the window for submitting hasn’t opened yet. I got the same message

Maybe until all decisions are out it’ll open up…

is it safe to say the rest are rejections?

3.4 @makaveli96

I think that the rest are waitlist/rejections. I got waitlisted today but there might be more in the coming days you never know

It seems as though many people are dissatisfied with UCI this year. Has anyone checked the freshmen thread to see if their handling of HS applicants was of the same caliber?

@Econgeek1 Yeah im pretty active in the usc, ucla, and uc berkeley transfer threads as well. It’s no surprise you may have seen me haha

waitlisted!
major: literary journalism
major pre-requisites: completed
IGETC: completed
TAG: no
GPA: 3.5
Accepted: CSUF, CSULB, CSUDH

i guess i’m going to long beach!!!

Man, it’s crazy how so many high GPA people are getting waitlisted by UCI, with some being accepted into Berkeley. It might be the essays too? I started mine over the summer and got it reviewed throughout the Fall. I guess they weren’t that great

@HarleyTheQuinn I strongly believe the essays are the breakthrough. I applied to Criminology (non-impacted major, but ranks 1st in nation) with a 3.1 and then 3.2 after update (only 3 C’s from 2015-2016, rest As and Bs).
I went raw on my personal essays(true stories). Two essays emphasized my major while the other two talk about me as a person outside college non-related to my major. I had one journalist from the Washington Post and a Dr. in English Literature from Harvard read my essays. I also had one alumni from UCI read them. So I strongly believe essays do play a big role. In last years thread I seen applicants (higher gpa) with the same intended major get denied.

@C105213 That’s so funny, I did the same thing with my statements! The first two were about my major while the other two were about myself. That’s great you got people of higher positions to read them. I just had two UCLA mentors read them and had two UCLA students read them.

3.85 GPA
UCI / UCSB / UCLA / UCSD : Pending
UCR: Accepted…
Pre Reqs: Everything completed minus ochem

lets hope ucla accepts me otherwise I’m attending UCR.

Fyi according to last years thread, uci doesn’t accept appeals for waitlists and only for rejects for transfers

@HarleyTheQuinn that’s good that you also did that. In the workshops they stress that a lot. Essays should be broad with different experiences that make one big picture. yeah I feel extremely blessed to come across the three persons that helped me. I forgot to tell you I had one UCLA alumni read them as well. In fact she was the last person to go over all 4. I definitely would not have made it without them. Having the journalist email me at 2am to send him a rough draft of my 1st essay will be in the books forever.

@harleythequinn it may be to protect their yields. They might assume the high GPAs will not pick UCI so are waiting for the diehards who hold out.

@Ohm888 I got in with 4.0. I dont think so.

Good for you.

@Ohm888 An interesting thought! I accepted the waitlist offer but I doubt I’ll find on-campus housing if by some miracle I’m admitted. RIP

Any non-TAGers get accepted?

@liberalhippie I’ve read places where Davis protects the yield and, of course, privates have been doing it for years. It’s a calculation game. Since the waitlists have gotten substantially larger these last few years at some UCs, the yield angle is a reasonable explanation. If you really want UCI hold out. Of course, in the end, it’s all about room.
